Default threw 2 codes

hey guys,
i just got the jlt intake and tune combo from AM and right now im running the 87 street tune until the 87 drains out and i load the 93...i drove around last night and everything was fine...then the check engine light came on, i read the DTC's and i got a lean code (forget exactly the code with (b2) in it) then i cleared it and the engine light went away...then later on i went to go grab a bite to eat and the engine light came back on with a different code P0171 (b1) saying the system was too lean

a friend of mine suggested i clean the MAF sensor or it might be a tune issue and i need to call Bama...what do you guys suggest???

Check all of your hose clamps. If you're not sucking some extra air in from a leak, then call AM/Bama. Sounds like a tune tweak if the hardware is set up right.

Yep. You're sucking extra air as I had mentioned.

Is that due to damage? Manufacturing defect? Installation problem?

more than likely an install problem...i was struggling to do this by myself lol...it looks like the intake elbow isn't looked on the throttle body, so when i tightened the clamp, it didn't do squat but leave the gap

Cool. Glad you found the issue. Enjoy the additional power. I was going to recommend that you run the custom 87 tune to get a feel for it's characteristics as compared to the other tunes but you're there already. Try to take a "spirited" drive on the 87 immediatley prior to filling up with the higher octane. Be sure that, before you repeat that spirited drive, that you log about 10-20 miles to clear the remaining 87 out of the fuel lines.

I'd recommend you wait to fill up until you're basically running on fumes. The first time I played with tunes I loaded up the 93 when I had just over an 1/8 of a tank left of 87 and I had some detonation... I begrudgingly went back to stock and on the next fill up it was just fine.

Octane can vary from station to station and from delivery to delivery at each station. Getting a "bad" tank of fuel (lower than advertised octane) is a lot more common than one might think. The average driver never notices it but those of us tuned for it and those of us super-sensitive to the slightest hicup on our engines WILL notice.
