Sorry, couldn't help it.
Fair enough (guess I asked for it).

idly wondering if Ford will ever up the ante to 5V a la Audi

Mentioning Audi, I heard an S5 on the road the other day. Wasn't goosing it or anything, just driving normal, and it sounded sweet. I want to know if my 4v and sound like that their 4v. I'm done with having a super loud mustang, at least for now.

Yup, quality > quantity

Being too loud will get you tossed off the lot at many autocrosses if you can't bring the noise level down to whatever the event limits might be. Never mind the possibility of losing the lot to local homeowner complaints, it's miserable just having to be out there chasing cones or working the start when some "ear-bleeder" makes his runs.

I had LTs, H, m80s, and SLP's for a week. It sounded like a supped up diesel truck when I got on it. It was cool the first day, then very annoying.

The car came with the SLPs which sound amazing by themselves. Paired with the offroad x pipe it is ridiculously loud & trumpets like crazy at around 2k RPM if I drive normally but if I bring the RPMs up steadily or just gun it it's not all that bad. Not exactly my dream setup but it'll work until I shell out the cash for headers and/or a different axleback Sorry for threadjack OP, no clue how to get that sound on our 3vs but it sure does sound nice!

As much as I love my 2010, there aint NOTHING like the sound of a 2V 99-04 with exhaust.

Killer.

Even better than a foxbody with exhaust, in my opinion.

Typically, you'd manage to get one or two runs in out of however many. The first (loud) run to get a notice to quiet it down if you're over (or a warning if you're close), and a second to see if any necessary fix worked well enough to continue past that. You'd get scored 'DNF' for any run over the limit. Typical limits are around 96 dbA, which actually gives you a fair bit of room above stock.

BTW, it's not just US domestic ponycars and musclecars that can be the excessively loud ones. Lightly muffled Acuras and Hondas once they hit the VTEC switchover rpm and this one particular BMW still come to mind after at least two years.
