Ford issues warning...
This was all really no surprise to me. You know Ford snoops around on these forums seeing people brag and boast about their idiotic foolishness in driving or modding that tore the car up, yet they somehow managed to get Ford to cover it under warranty.
Well, I imagine Ford has finally had enough. I don't blame them one bit for clamping down on this and publishing that TSB. I know if I owned a motor co and people were trying to screw me over I'd be friggin pissed.

The funny part is that so often when people complain about how Ford isn't catering well to the modding group etc, people come around talking all high and mighty about how they don't have to care because mustangs are a tiny market, modders are an even tinier market within that market, blah blah blah.
Then, when Ford issues something distinctly against people who mod their cars, people come in defending Ford as if they're losing mass amounts of cash on undeserved warranty work on these cars, had they not put in these provisions.
Can't go both ways peeps.

The simplest answer is the 5.0 is a massed produced factory engine, it is 302ci. It develops 1.47hppci. in boss trim. 40 Years ago prostock engines barely made that much hppci. The engine is not at peak, most likely about 70% of peak, that is Fords safety margin, going beyond that you are taking the risk not Ford!
Ford has made "points" about this issue many times, many people have chosen to ignore them.

I'm not suprised that this has happened on stock 5.0's as they have a number of things that cause me not to want to buy one
1. 11:1 compresion ratio attempting to run 87 (to me that is to knock sensor dependant)
2. new firing order (which it seems is not for more power but for sound)
3. non-forged pistons on the normal one
just those 3 things come back and hit me if I ever think of getting a 5.0. It'll need more testing and Ford to revise some things for me to want the coyote (I'd rather the cammer 5.0 over the coyote 5.0)

I'll defend any business that has to warranty it’s work as made against people who want to modify it! I own a high End Construction business. If I build something and then the owner has someone else take out some of the load bearing walls I should not have to be responsible for what happenes after that!
Why should Ford have to cater to people modifying their product? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding what you're saying, could you clarify please? I also don't feel like this TSB is against people who mod their cars, they're just simply restating what has always been, if your mod breaks the car we don't cover it.
It's more so that often times people like to preach that Ford won't pay special attention to modders (which i agree with), because they're such a small share of the market. Yet when something like this comes up, people believe that Ford is going to be losing a lot of money on modifications had they not put in a measure like this.
Someone can't argue both that it's a small market, and that at the same time it's going to cause large amounts of cash to come out of Ford.
My argument is simply that the modding market is very small in the first place, and a TSB like this probably upsets more people that it's worth for the money that Ford keeps in its pocket.
Oh I'm not saying they should cater to a small modding group.

Ford has sold to-date about 35,000 5.0s in mustangs alone. A Small % as you say would be around 4.75% of those or 1,662 units. If Ford were to replace that many units it would cost Ford ($9,972,000) as much to fix the "OWNERS" problems as it does to fix all the other Bovine Excrement claims that Ford already fixes!
The bean counters are not going to let that happen and they shouldn’t!

Ford has LOST at least 100 Million dollars over the last 10 years due to people modifying THEIR vehicles and then wanting warranty work done to fix the "Problem". That's only 10 million a year or around 1,662 units (All models) Brands/Company wide!
