I'd like to think you also respect right-of-way controls (things like stop & yield signs and traffic lights).

But based on daily observations I'm afraid to assume that much.

I'd like to think you really are as skilled a driver as you think you are, but most student-age people over-estimate their skills and under-estimate their own mortality. You of all people should understand this. Keep in mind you can't talk your way out of trying to break the laws of physics.

Carrying around a grudge against traffic law enforcement can't possibly benefit you and could work against you in future encounters. Time to grow up and move on.

I was a skilled driver once. And very adept at spotting cops, at 18 yrs old or younger, being stopped 3 times in under 18 months.
Yes, sarcasm. I can't believe I just read that in a post here..

As for Opie-IN, wish you were a cop around here then. Most of the east coast that I've been exposed to rural or urban is Mayberry-like. They just set up shop somewhere, and flag people over as they get closer. Quite effective tax collection. Of course these are pawned off on the rookies I'm sure, as I have yet to see one or be stopped by anyone over the age of 24.

V1 is still the best "serious" budget model IMO. Not that I know from experience any-more. Priced/researched, but you have to use them like you use the car, as an extension to your brain/senses/body, as some have stated already, not as a sole dependency. My foot tends to get more lead-based on open stretches with one, rather than without, but I still might get one again in the future.

Kinda sad really. The V1 has been out how long? Still at least considered by most to be in the top 5 or 10, 5 usually if you include price as a class factor.

I do like the PASSPORT 9500ci, for the mounting possibilities, better computer interfacing capabilities (bonus for me), database updates for 3 years free(via said usb computer updates), and locally saving false entries...

But do I like it $1700 worth?...not so much.

And ya, Cobra = le crap detector wise.

Befriend a high ranking local cop with a fast car. Get him talking about cars till he admits to opening it up. Then tell him you would love to open it up a bit too - but you're always afraid you're gonna get caught.

DO NOT directly admit to speeding, tho.

But as a side note... Some of the replies in this thread are appalling. Officers are generally really nice, good people. They're just doing their job - trying to keep people safe. They don't make them [the laws] - only make sure they're followed. If you don't respect your traffic laws, don't get angry at the officers, get angry at the local legislature.

valentine1 is the best detector you can get. I've tried the 9500ix and got a ticket because of it lack of pop performance...

CI man, not IX. worlds better, but with a pricetag to match.

No offense to you and I wasnt responding to any of the posts, just saw the thread and wanted to put my 2cents. That said, can you show me a test where ci outperforms either in pop? V1 has the best detection, others have better features no doubt. The detection on the ci is the same as the ix. Sure, the gps features are sweet, but unless you can detect, whats the point?

Oh, I know, I just wanted to clarify they're not really the same in quality/detection.

I get what you're saying as you believe them to just be the same innards with external connections. I don't believe this to be the case. In any thread I've seen with a comparison, it's near dead on with the V1. Whereas not with the IX comparisons.

One example here. Just not sure if being at the V1 level, with better integration is worth 1300 bucks more to most. Probably not.

if thats the case than it would be a good buy still. the detection of a v1 plus features of the ix, but have you seen comparisons of where pop aka "instant on" type radars were tested? thats the type that landed me 190 ticket in a ix while my buddy with an old v1 detected the radar much sooner. I've use the v1 for 8 years before it was stolen and I tried out the ix. Then returned the ix for a v1. I considered the ci, but thought read it was just like the ci plus connections, etc, if thats not the case then I just learned something

edit: qt = pop.. cool, thansk for teh info. ci might be my next detector

It's nice from what I've read, but like I said, still kinda sad to me the V1 is still so good in comparison to new ones most times. New ones only seem to hope to equal the thing. It's been on top of the heap an unheard of time electronics wise.
