Default 2012 oil filter?

Can anybody with a 2012 GT confirm which oil filter numbers they use?

Went to change my oil for the first time today. Bought from walmart
1) 2 bottles (10 qts!) of motorcraft synthetic blend 5w-20 (I think these were $16/ea)
2) a 10 qt drain pan (which leaks, don't buy one from walmart)
3) a fram extended guard xg10575 oil filter

The oil filter is a good 2" shorter than what's on the car, so I'm reluctant to install it.

Fram's website says that is the correct filter. But, that filter number works on several other cars as well. Aftermarket filters are not always the same size as the OE ones.

Hmm. I wonder which would be better, a shorty Fram or a bigger Motorcraft?

The Fram EG isn't a bad filter (but the standard orange-can Fram shouldn't be used). Considering that it's physically smaller than the OE filter, I'd be concerned about it's capacity. I believe the OE filter is something like FL500 (I know there's a "500" in there). The MotorCraft oil filters have been rated as very good.

Don't know, it really is dependent on what is inside. Most forums will tell you to stay away from Fram. K&N, Amsoil, Wix, Motorcraft all get good reviews.

Wix is shorter than the Motorcraft oil filter also.

I wouldn't worry if the Fram filter holds a bit less oil than the Motorcraft. Start out by adding one quart less than rated capacity. Run the engine for a few minutes, turn it off, let it sit for five minutes to allow all the oil to drain into the pan. Read the dipstick. Then add a bit more oil. Repeat the whole procedure until the dipstick reads full. It's not going to hurt anything if you're running 1/4 quart or so less than rated full capacity.
