Random topic: Has anyone come from a BMW/Benz/Audi/Lexus to a Mustang?
As you can see, I moved from Lexus (powerful/a little sporty/appointed and comfortable) to the Cadillac (I'd describe the same as the Lexus) to the Mustang which I would say is much more fun to drive, gets just as many looks, and in reality, is not as well appointed but is surprisingly close in comfort. Both other cars were money pits, any repair or maintenance costs big bucks, and the Cadillac was a technical marvel and nightmare. The Lexus and Mustang have both been solid mechanically. I miss the heads up display on the Caddy and the hard top convertible roof, and miss the cooled/ventilated seats of both the Lexus and Caddy. The Mustang is the only car that I can actually work on, the others needed specialized techs to do everything. It is also the only one that offers so many after market customizations and that adds to the fun.
This is an awesome thread! I'm delighted to read of the Mustang love. There have been some amazing improvements in the past few years, as you've noticed! Thanks to all for being members of the Ford Family.

I have an 06 mustang GT and enjoy it very much. Test drove a mercedes SLK awesome car with amazing handling quality, but ridiculous money. Test drove a porche amazing power but too much money. Tried a 2011 GT 5.0 and liked that a lot, handling a lot better than my 06.
I doubt our mustangs would last long on the autobahn sections where there is no speed limit. I asked my cousin in Germany and he said some guys tried the north american performance cars but their cooling systems would not let them sustain long term high speed driving. Some of those german cars will do very high speeds all day long with no problem.

I hate to jump in and be the Mustang hater since I own one but oh well. While I have never owned some of the vehicles in comparison, I have spent time in most of them. Our cars are nice and fun to drive but they do not compare to some of these other ones. I look at the interior of my car which has everything except navigation and it is still extremely cheap compared to the others. How many of us are racing on a daily drive? Does that .1 second of the 0-60 really mean that much?
What it all boils down to is you get what you pay for. There is obviously a reason the other cars are more expensive. I would hand over the keys to my Mustang any day to step into a BMW 3 series coupe, an Audi A5, etc. I suspect some of you would as well!

i'd only give up the keys for an 335i M3...other than that..thos cars can kiss it... high dollar JUNK!!(even the M3 is) repairs, maintanence, all expensive.... oil changes, windshield wipers, filters.. all costly on those kinds of vehicles.. and resale sucks!! and I am an auto enthusiast. i like experiencing all cars and enjoy learning about them, watching them run/race and driving them, but they are only practical if money is no factor... my friends with those kinds of rides all complain about repair/maintanence cost regularly.. get in a fender bender and forget it.. the engine bay has no room for error and body work is outrageously expensive.. now time to be hated on... hahahaha

I don't mean to pick on you, but obviously the Ford Mustang isn't a luxury car. It's plain to see that when you buy a Mustang GT, you're paying a somewhat premium price tag for that 4.6 or 5 liter V8, not for a luxury interior. The Mustang works hard to earn a high $/hp ratio and it does that well. Why does the M3 cost over double the cost of a GT? Oh yeah because it has that V8 and a luxury interior.
I don't think the idea here is whether or not there are better cars out there than the Mustang, there are. The question is what you prefer in a car, because the Mustang and a BMW or Audi target buyers with different interests.

Just found out today that I'm only one of 859 GTs in grabber blue, one of 29 grabber blue GTs with factory striping. That's more unique than just another black or silver BMW.
I've owned many vehicles in my lifetime, and currently have a 2006 BMW 325I (E90) sedan with sport package and 6-speed manual, along with my 2005 Mustang GT Convertible.
The BMW has superior handling, better steering, braking, vastly more solid, higher quality interior, and less problems while getting 27 mpg.
That being said, there is just something special about my Mustang. It isn't meant to be an entry level luxury car, it' an unapologetic muscle car. It makes great sounds, fun torque, and has loads of character and attitude.
I love both my cars, both for different reasons.
