Well the hardest part is finding rims that will clear the brembo breaks.

With the 18's being dedicated to winter use, Blizzaks in 255/45 are probably going to be your best bet. Dropping the inch in wheel diameter typically calls for a 5 higher profile number, so you'll still be sitting at very close to the same ride height as on your 19's.

Snake - Michelin used to make TRX tires in really odd sizes, and there actually was a 240/45 . . . a 240/45-ZR415 to be exact (metric wheel diameter).

255/45's - if you want to keep all 4 corners the same
255/45's up front & 285/40's out back - if you want to stagger them

+1.

I'm a fat tire guy myself though.
Nothing looks as good as a nice fat back tire.

We have 18x9.5 and my next back tire will be a 305.
The stance just looks WICKED!

Your choice of wheel has limited you in tire choice. Being 9 1/2 in wide, you can't monut a thin tire, and the 255/45-18's are probably wider than you want for winter driving. I have those same wheels with 255/45-18 Hankook v12's all around and love them, but then again I'm in south florida where a cold day is maybe high 60's........

If I go with a 18x9 wheel, what are the optimal tires for that setup?

240s would be fine for that setup in winter, but if you want wide meats, I think you would be fine with 275s out back.

Ummm, what he's looking for is a WINTER tire, where "wide meats" aren't the answer.

9" will buy you down to 245/45's.

Try to avoid letting "appearance pressure" con you into putting those 305's on rims that are too narrow.

305/45's will work OK-ish on a 9.5" wide rims.

305/40's and 305/35's would be slightly squeezed down if you put them on 9.5" wheels (they really need to be on 10" - 12" wide wheels). Not the best situation for a couple of reasons.
