Default Saleen 2005 Turbonetics turbo kit problems!!

Hello board,

first post. I'm trying to help the owner of this Saleen 2005 which has a Turbonetics turbo kit in it.

The owner did buy the car recently and he doesn't know much about it. Rumors are that this kit was designed for a GT or something like that, that is different than this Saleen model and hence the follow problems:

Nocitced when started the engine in cold, it will fire up quick, and after 2-3 seconds the idle will jump to about 3.5k-4k RPM. Then I have to blip the throttle to bring lower the RPM's and after a 2-3 seconds, again the same. I will do it for about 3-4 times and then it will OK idling. Of corse you wills e a giant black cloud at the tail pipe.

Once it warmed up, I took it for a spin to test it. Found it won't make any weird job in WOT, not dead spots/problems and will make 8 PSI according to the boost gauge, however, again, black cloud at the tailpipe (yes,, very rich).

idling in fully warm ngine, it will make black smoke and if I blip the throttle, it will increase a bit...all the rear bumper is covered by black water (condense).

I didn't see any Predator in the car, the owner doesn't know anything about it. I was hoping to buy one and see where I can source a tune. (not sure how much will cost the custom tune).

Check engine light is ON of corse.

Any info/feedback regarding this issue is very much appreciated.

-Diego

Sounds like a tuning problem..
it probably needs to be taken to a tuner and have them sort it out.

Yes, however bringing the car to a specialist tunner is impossible since it doesn't exist any arround here (Peru).

I have installed few S/C Vortech kits in some Jeep SRT-8's and one of them had to be custom tune. I had to datalog with a laptop and Predator and send the file through emails and get them back, download and test few times until it came out good the tune on the car. I guess I could do the same here? The owner would gladly pay (of corse) the tunenr to do this, but I'm not sure who has here the knoweldge in particular about this turbo setup.

Here are the pics loaded in other hosting (seems I can't edit my previous post?)

Have you tried to clean the throttle body? Brenspeed is a very reputable shop and they have a video of the process if you haven't done this before.... However, based on your second post, it sounds like you are very mechanically proficient, so you probably already did that. If not and want to see the video, click on the link above and scoll down that page to see the video.

Also, VMP Tuning is another tuner that is awesome with Mustangs as far as I have read.

Good luck.

i hate to point out the obvious but the car needs to be tuned. likely what happened is that the previous owner returned the car to a stock tune when he sold it and either kept or sold his programmer separately.

first i would tell the owner to track down the previous owner and ask him where the hell his tune is because the car needs it to run. if that bears no fruit, which i kinda doubt it, hes just gonna have to buy a programmer and have someone send him an email tune.

both breenspeed and american muscle can do this as well as a few others. tell them whats on the car, how its setup and they will send you a tune that will let you run it safely, then ifyou want anything better than that your gonna have to go for a dyno tune.

Totally agree for the need of a tune... I was just trying to help with the jumping idle with a quick 30 minutes of work from cleaning the throttle body... Since the OP has datalogged before, he seems pretty competent. Hopefully he will be able to get his friend running sooner than later.

Having looked into the Turbonetics kit for my friend's 05, I know for a fact the kit (the tune that comes with the kit, specifically) is not compatible with the Saleen models.

If I recall correctly, all the parts fit correctly like the standard GT.

Beating the dead horse here - it needs a custom tune.

Read up,
the user stated that he lives in Peru and there's no custom-tuner anywhere nearby.

I've heard of people (one of my friends) that have custom-tuned cars themselves, but it's hard, and ALOT of work...he runs the SCT pro software. Although you have to purchase the software, and many other things from SCT to make it work.

I'd email BAMA tuning at AmericanMuscle.com and see if there's anything they could do for you.

i think by "custom tune" Cobra just means having someone like brenspeed
or bama build up a tune and email it, along with a tuning device.

canned, custom, dyno......these are the types of tunes available to us and
all get jumbled up sometimes......
