Default Header Question

I haven't really messed with headers at all, outside of just replacing them back in the day on my '65 mustang and a couple various other simple cars.

I have an opportunity to pick up some BBK Ceramic Shorty's for damn near nothing - $400.00 headers for under $100.00.

1) Should I do this
2) What else do I need to know?
3) Is this a bolt off / bolt on option or do I need to additional pieces (outside gaskets)?

I tried to do a search and didn't really find anything that told me what I needed to know.

Thanks for your help.

Mike.

You'd put those in only you want to improve the looks of your engine. shorty headers offer little benefit.
They'd bolt in-place of your stock manifolds and the stock catted-h pipe will bolt right up to them.

They do very little, but for that price I'd jump on them.

Either buy them and sell them or don't waste your money.

I had them on my 2007. By themselves the difference isn't very noticeable. And with all those bends because they are tuned length they are a real p.i.t.a. to install. You must get a x-pipe with or without h.f. cats and a new tune to feel a difference.

I have them on my 05 with off road h and flowmasters and yea you really need a tune to feel alot of difference with them. They do change the sound alot. Mine sounded alot deeper and no trumpeting from the flowmasters after installing them. Installation is a pain but with alot of patience it can be done. Just be safe while doing the swap.

I wouldn't waste my money on shorties. There's no real benefit. If I was going to put the time to install a set of headers I would go full length headers and a x-pipe. You will get a real (around)20hp increase and the sound is awesome. I would also invest in a quality set of headers to avoid fitment issues, durability and leaks in the future.
