Default Shifting issues

Hay Guys!! i've noticed that when car is cold that shifting 1 threw 3 is a bite notchy. Even when car is running at normal temp not always but shifting seems to be notchy. is this normal for this tranny(manual).

yes, change your trans fluid to synthetic, it will be better but not completely.

Actually I believe the factory fill is synthetic starting in the 08 model year. That said, it's Mobil 1. My car felt HORRIBLE in the cold. Like I wanted to cringe everytime I shifted. There wasn't a grind, but it felt terrible.

That being said, I got the tsb done that supposedly fixes that, and it felt the exact same. Maybe it's just how it feels?

What I do know is I've run a few different ATF's and currently in it right now is Redline D4 ATF, which feels a heck of a lot better than the factory fill, and GM Synchromesh gave me the best results. Just don't feel like draining out $40 of fluid.

But yes, even with different fluid it will still be notchy when cold. Heck mine is if it sits for hours even on a summer day. During winter it's just a longer warm up period. Yours is fine. These transmissions aren't the smoothest, and I've grown used to it.

The factory fill for 2008 Mustangs was Motorcraft MERCON, which is designed for optimal performance. Since your Mustang is still feeling notchy, you might want to switch to a Synthetic Blend MERCON, or bring it to the dealer so they can inspect it. Let me know if I can help.

I've noticed that with my 2010 as well but I may just do the synthetic blend. I think its due anyways. Whats the mileage again for the fluid on the trans?? I always get different numbers from people.

Usually about 30k. And I did take it back and the tech that drove it said they didn't feel anything. I just thought maybe I'm over sensitive, and I drove an 07 on the lot and it felt similar. Either way it feels a lot better with the Redline D4. Still "crunchy" when cold but once it warms up it's mostly smooth.

That's a common complaint. A quality synthetic seems to reduce or eliminate the notchyness, as mentioned earlier.

Good move. What fluid will you be changing to? And the way I look at it, as long as it's not audibly grinding, I think that's just the way the 3650 trans feels.
