373 will pull harder at ANY speed than 331 until you hit the top speed.. again the most i have gone is 145mph.. so i dont think you will get to the point where the 331 will pass the 373 lol... unless your doing a 5 mile run.

Improves acceleration, I wouldn't say they are better then the rest. If you want more performance then 4.10's are a good choice. I believe 3.73's are for a good mix of performance and DD, atleast thats what I have read/heard and because of that I plan on 3.73's.

They also make 5th gear more useful. You are at a higher RPM and the car is more responsive. With the 6 speed, I only have to drop it into 5th...and I go from 60 to 80 in a heart beat. Drop it in fourth... good bye

Theoretically, maybe. Real world, not really. Example. Not sure about the S197s, but back in the foxbody days, a car with 3.73s would actually have a higher top end than a similarly equipped car with a 2.73. Reason? The car with the 3.73 stayed in its power band better and would actually top out higher because of the speed/torque/power band relationship. The car with 3.73s could keep pulling in 5th where the car with 2.73s would fall on it's face when he shifted to 5th. Strange but true.

I imagine the current crop of Stangs are similar, but don't quote me on that.

Considering the Coyote and end the 4.6l hold their torque curves very well all the way to redline, gearing is not considered for power band. So long as you stay above 3000rpm on a modular, you remain in the power band all the way to redline.
I do not know what the stock pushrod 5.0 torqu curves look like, but from this description, it sounds like their torque curves have a narrow peak instead of the desired broad dome shape curves the modulars give. I guess multivalves and OHC make a massive difference in defining the shape of the torque curve.

For those of you wondering about top end, my car (manual w/ 3.73s) redlines at around 120 in 4th gear. I've never gone above that...but I'm pretty sure 5th gear would leave me with plenty left after 125mph...not that going that fast would ever be necessary for me. Also, dropping into 4th at 80mph will get you to 120mph very quickly...and it seems without much effort at all. This engine likes to go fast

+1. I took a friend for a ride who's a muscle car guy. The guy has previously owned a 70' Torino and 69' Mach 1. I got on the freeway at 50 and rowed from 3rd to 4th, we were up to 100 pretty quickly and he was like "OH S***!"

Having gone from low and mid 3.xx's to 4.10s in 3 stangs, quicker acceleration is most noticeable change.

Decreases in gas mileage for me were negligible and I could get 25mpg highway if I set cruise at 65 and stayed out of it (proven over 1200 mile road trip).
