Mine did this once before I garage kept mine and before I moved to FL. What I did was got some hot water in a bucket and poured it all over the windows until all the ice was gone and then they opened normally. Idk why tint would rip off since tint is on the inside.

Hot water + cold icy window = not good for keeping the window in one piece.

You want to be very careful with that, the hot water will cause the frozen window to expand and crack very easily. I wouldn't use that method, and I've seen the results on a neighbor's car. Windshield shattered basically.

Yep... generally not a good idea.

You use a colder temperature water dump. As long as the temperature is above freezing it will thaw it. We are most likely talking about a very very small amount of ice. So a lot of time and water shouldn't be needed. Just enough to loosen the ice up.

The drastic change in temperature is what will cause the sudden cracking. If it is 25 outside and you use 45ish water, it shouldn't be too bad. Obviously it will take longer, but better than replacing the window.

i think the tint was just a bad tinting job...... but what about the old "spray PAM" around the seals method?? only worry there was if over time is it possible to get it greasy enough where the tint (when re-done) will come off more?...... ive thought about that ice melt spray but have heard that its harsh on paint and can give windows a Slight yellow tint..??

Most window tint install pro's around here offer a lifetime warranty. Yours might as well. I would contact them and ask as this might be something they can take care of for you...

As far as preventing this in the future if you do not have a garage is to possibly gently push in on the weatherstripping with your finger before trying to open the door to break the bond between the window edge and the weather stripping in freezing temps.

quick search on yahoo:
- silicone spray, before the fact,
- de-icer spray, after you forgot the silicone spray,
i'm sure there are more options.

tint was on before we got the car but it was put on a few weeks before we bought it by the dealership itself so ill go back and ask them....

but until then ill carefully try the mentioned methods but if anybody else has something we are missing please inform us. :-)

my main concern is burning up the window motor....
