Hot water + cold icy window = not good for keeping the window in one piece.
You want to be very careful with that, the hot water will cause the frozen window to expand and crack very easily. I wouldn't use that method, and I've seen the results on a neighbor's car. Windshield shattered basically.

By hot water I meant above freezing and the temp outside. Not boiled water.
