I've owned 6 Mustang and really love my 2010 GT, but one of my biggest complaints about it and the S197s in general is the exhaust sound. I've yet to hear one that actually did "it" for me.

I'll probably leave mine stock, or at the most go with GT500 mufflers. I just hate how all the aftermarket stuff pops and farts. Way too raspy and harsh. No deep throaty rumble like foxbodies or even New Edges.

Good point on the gears. I have a V6 and it worked negatively in my case.
I went from 3:31 gears with no drone to 3:73 gears and annoying drone. But the wife hasn't complained yet so I'm crossing my fingers.

as others have said, post them up forsale, try and recoup some of the money you just spent and do more searching on other mufflers that have less, or no drone.

sorry to hear your disappointment on the brand new mufflers you just got...good luck on whatever solution you come up with.

I feel your pain Exley. For my 08 Bullitt I first tried Pypes Axle-Backs. Drone was unbearable. Then Corsa Extreme - no drone at all. The sound was too Indy for me. Then the Roush Extreme Cat Backs - awesome sound - terrible drone at 2K. Did the DynaMat and DynaPad in the car- cut the drone out mostly and life was good. Then I changed to a Comp Cam Stage 2 Cam. Raised the db (measured) by 10 and drone was back with a vengenance. Then the Corsas went back on - pitch about the same as before, just louder and raspier. Put the stock Bullitt mufflers on - sound is great, no drone, just too quiet. I have some KR500-S arriving tomorrow, I'm hoping that is the solution for me. If not, Bassani is next...

BTW I have a nice set of Roush Extreme Cat Backs (less than 200 miles) and a set of Corsa Extreme Axle Backs (about 8K miles but still look new) if anyone is interested....

I feel like any offroad midpipe and dual chamber muffler is a recipe for mega drone. I'm running and offroad h pipe with FM40s. I've actually come to enjoy the drone...especially after I hear my car on the outside, it's all worth it to me! haha

There was a recent thread, I think here, on how to add a pipe to the system that is closed on one end. This makes a resonating chamber and will stop the drone (ever see those crazy looking plastic intake pipes connecting the airfilter to the intake, same thing).

I did a quick search and couldn't find it. If memory serves me right, I think the magic number was 26" for the 1800-2100rpm drone (I've got it to, but only when the engine is cold).

My JBA's didnt have a drone. Still have them if you want. Sound was great too. I took them off when Magnaflow put a 3" system from the front al the way back for SEMA.

Dunno what you plan on goin with but I recorded a quick vid of mine a few days after I got it installed... plan to get a better vid with higher revs sometime. Like said Bassani race exhaust is also a good choice. You gotta pay a little more than your pypes or JBA but sounds better imo. Not as pricey as Borla or Ford racing, though. I didn't go with Bassani because I could only find a 2.5" axleback, no 3" catbacks

Stock mani's, catless H, 3" magnapack

I know it was mentioned already but changing gears does wonders if you purchase the right set. on stock 3.55 the stingers had their drone range right at cruising but with 4.10s its no longer and issue.

Gears will reduce drone, but won't make it completely go away. I had 4.10's on my 07' GT with Bassani Street A/B. This was the only exhaust mod I had and it still had a bit of drone in that 1,800 - 2,000 RPM range. With 4:10's, I was hardly ever cruising in that range.

It really boils down how much drone you can tolerate. The combo I had was tolerable by my standards. Many on here have a higher tolerance point than I do. If you want your car to be loud, the byproduct of loud is drone unless you spend top dollar on a system like Borla or equivalent. Chances are if you are trying to save pennies by purchasing a louder sounding axle back in a low pricepoint, it will have drone.

If your goal is to eliminate drone altogether, you're probably better off with GT500 axle backs. Or I've been hearing that Flowmaster Force II's do not drone. These are probably the quietest mufflers offered by Flowmaster for the Mustangs and it won't break the bank. I can only speak for experience on the GT500 mufflers though.
