Default Take off mods before dealer visit?

I have some problem with the drivetrain area of my 2007 GT. There is a rotational scraping/clunking type noise when I take off especially in a turn when the car is cold. Could be the driveshaft U-joint or bearing.....althought I'm having a hard time imagining how it could make this noise. Possibly my transmission is going bad since there has always been a thin drizzzle of oil on the underside of it. I have not had a chance to get under it to look at anything yet.

Anyway, I have a Bassani X, which has been spot welded to my over axle pipes to prevent slippage. If I take my car to the dealership and removing my exhaust is necessary for repair, will they do it or not? I can do it myself, but it will be a real pain.

From what I have read that others have posted, they may charge you any time over the book listed time for that part of the job. Then again, they may not......kinda of a crap shoot. Why not call them and ask if they would have any issues with the exhaust you have.

I'll ask the service manager.

I do plan to get under the car tomorrow (Friday) to see if it is anything simple, but from the noise it would seem to be something more complicated.

Actually, that noise as you described sounds to me like the clutch plates in the LS differential not being lubed properly. Had a E350 van doing that. Ended up with a new rear end........

I doubt they give you a problem, I brought my car in for tranny work and the dealership didn't give me a problem for my mods, most dealerships don't care but, i heard of people on this forum stating they had problems. Post what the dealer says....if they say anything?

They WILL care if the mods cause a job to take longer than it should. Any additional labor that is a result of the mods will be charged to the customer.

I agree, I meant if the mod doesn't cause a problem then the dealer usually doesn't care. If the mod created the failure then of course it will be an issue and the the person usually expects to pay. It's a no brainer.

Well, I did not take the car to the dealer, but I did crawl under it for a look. There is no sign of anything scraping. The driveshaft is fine. It looks normal. I am almost positive that it is the differential clutch since it only does it in a turn. Anyone know how much it might cost to get this replaced? The dealership will not cover it because I had 4.10 gears put in a few years ago.

I think I will try changing the differential fluid. Anyone else had the same problem and fixed it this way?
