They shouldn't take too much apart. It is a quick and easy process, I was out of there in 10 minutes when I took mine in August. And you're welcome.

Wow. Thank you again Antonio. I really appreciate your kind help. Fyi. I had to leave it at the dealer because they told me if that was the problem it would take "a while"... Took it in at 7am and still waiting to hear back on final diagnosis and when I can pick it up. My son took me to work. Glad to hear it should not be a big job.

Thank you again for your consideration and responses. It has been a tremendous help. Best regards to you and all that have responded. Of course I will post the outcome and experience feedback.

You're very welcome . And I'm surprised you haven't gotten it back, I don't know what's going on there. And yes keep us updated.

I had the same problem.

You can hear it in this video just before the car starts. It was a broken part in the air/heat system. I can't remember the name of the part, but there are two of them. They had to order mine, so it took longer.

sorry it took so long to get back and update.

It was one of the accentuator (sp?) valves/diverters. Took about 5 hours to get the car back but they may have been busy. Overall a very good experience at this dealer.

I want to thank you all for your time and kind feedback - it helped a lot to know what was possibly going on before taking it in. Hope this helps someone else.

Best Regards to everyone!

Wow, I can't believe I found a thread with what appears to be the same problem I'm having. My car only makes the noise when I disengage one of the functions on the right side of the AC control ****. If I turn it from off, and go towards the drivers side (vents, vents + feet, max) there is no noise. But if I go from any of the right settings (windshield defrost, defrost + feet, feet) to the off position, or beyond the off position, I get those loud ticks.

Any idea what it costs to fix this on a car that's out of warranty? To pay Ford the diagnosis fee + repair would be silly... what could I research to purchase and repair myself, if possible.. the actuator part mentioned above?

EDIT: So a quick google for vent door actuator turns up this link to a service manual:

http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=336&viewfil...oor%20Door.pdf

There are 3 choices for mode door actuator, each having the same part number when you get to the description. In my car, will I find 3 instances of this same part? Or is it showing 3 approaches to the part? I'm assuming there are 3 identical parts that could potentially need to be replaced, but it's likely only 1 that I need, and probably the "panel floor door" option, since I only hear the noise when I get to the off position on my settings.
