Default Here is my axle

I picked this axle up from a guy for a crazy deal. It is from a 2012 v6 premium with 6 speed manual he swapped in a axle from a 09 gt500.

Why is there so much rust on that axle if its a 2012? or am I just out of my mind/missing something? Very cool either way.

Check your flange before swapping (I remember you had another thread about buying one) because the 2012 may already have the correct flange on it.

And bakerjd - that is typical. The rear ends aren't painted from the factory and the surface is designed to get that rust patina; it doesn't go through just surface to "protect" it actually.

Strip it before you install it and paint it black!

+1, I would be embarrassed to see a 2012 car on a lift with so much rust on the axle haha.

I painted it after sanding it really good now I wanted to know why can't I just swap the pinion flange from my old axle to the new one? Why do I have to buy the cobra one?

I'm not sure - I think it has to do with the mounting holes themselves.

But again, double check before you do anything. I think that the 2012 axle has the cobra flange and it ends up a direct swap for the V6 driveshaft. Don't pull the pinion flange until you check it, no sense upsetting the pre-load specification if you don't have to.

JimC's right, try and hook it up before you bother pulling the flange pinion. If it already fits, you won't have to do anything.

It has the cup style flange not the flat one so are you saying to try to fit it in the cup?
