IMO, I'd stay away from the 05 + 06 because of some of the issues (read the laundry list of TSB's) and that puts you into "iffy" territory to find an '07 or later in good condition for $15k (and I'm assuming that's out-the-door). Unless you find an '05 or '06 from a previous owner that is educated about the woes of these S197's, I doubt you'll find one that's problem-free for that $15k... But it's not impossible.

i paid a little more for my 06 a little more than a year ago, allways have to search for a reasonably balanced deal of price/quality.
imo however, with that mindset YOU should buy a camry.

I bought my 06 GT for 15k in June of 2010 on the dot. It had 48k on it and not a single scratch. Just one door ding, and I've had no problems with the car except for the normal crap you go through with maintaining one.

Thanks everyone who posted useful comments. I guess I'll have to spend a little bit more on a 2007, which will be impossible for me currently without financing.
I was also thinking about a V6, but 210hp from a 4000cc engine doesn't sound that impressive. Fuel consumption seems to be a little bit better, but not compared to the loss of performance compared to a V8.
@bakerjd: why am I a troll for asking other Mustang owners what can be bought for certain amount of money? I don't see a reason you should find it "inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic". Asking prices are not the same as prices for which cars actually sell, and that's the info I need.
@edcologne @stang06lv: mentioning a Camry was a kind of a joke. But I definitely don't want to spend $15k on a car on which I couldn't depend. In Southern California that would cause major inconvenience for me.

Bought my 06 GT with 15k miles for $15.5k over two years ago.....October 2009 Had been sitting on a dealers lot for 4 months. No problems whatsoever and just is a base model GT. I am on Maui and everything costs more here. So yes you can get a GT for a good price now.

Just bought my loaded '05 GT vert with 55,000 miles for $11,500 in Canada (so even less in American dollars).
If you have a day or two you should look for one in a winter climate. Even if you buy one in Canada it's easy to import (I've imported a car from the States, anyway, and that was easy). But anywhere where the snow flies will have better deals than Cali. Especially with verts.
