2013 GT>/CS Pricing
Got my papers in today for my 2013 pre-order and im in a bind.
I have a 2010 Mustang GT, and I really wanna trade in for this 2013. I only owe 21k for my GT, I paid 36 for it, fully loaded. They want like 44k for the new GT and GT/CS's with tax's. Should I just put a new 5.0 engine in my 2010? or get the 2013?

what a rip off. don't buy into some dealership's attempt to price rape early buyers of the 2013. it's a mustang, it's going to be commonly available everywhere. it's just a slight refresh, there's not going to be some huge pent up demand for a new product or anything..
that being said, I don't know how cost effective it would be to put a 5.0 power plant into your 2010.. I can't imagine the trade in value would be very appealing either but ya never know!

there is a lot of costs involved with swapping an engine over. I am not trying to deter you on the upgrade based on your personal cost to switch over, I am trying to point out the dealer is quoting you very high and trying to take advantage of anyone excited to have 'one of the first' 2013s.
look up invoice costs for the car, they are not that high. granted, 2013s have gone up in cost slightly, they didn't go up by much. you can find a 2013 elsewhere for thousands less. CS's are not rare by any means either, so don't let them work that angle.

To drop in a Coyote in lieu of the 4.6L, the cost I believe just for the parts would be:
Engine: one tick under $6500
http://www.americanmuscle.com/coyote-crate-engine.html
Coyote PCM & harnesing: one tick under $1600
http://www.americanmuscle.com/frpp-c...adtype=pla&kw=
So far, that is $8100, but I do not know what other parts you would need, such as possibly a new K-member, the EPAS (if the 4.6L power steering pump cannot mount onto the Coyote), or a tune for the PCM kit.
If these other parts are needed, you would be looking at adding another $2000 or so, so just in case yo do this, you might want to set aside at least $10,000 just for parts. Labor is another story.

My 2011.. a job 2 build, was $37,000 before rebates and such.
Thats a GT premium, brembo package, glass roof, 3.73 rear, and backup camera. I didn't get the electronics package because I could have a much better system for 2 grand. Plus, the standard stereo comes with sync.
I got about $2000 off in rebates.. and my fully paid off trade helped a bit
Long and short, 44K for an appearance package is a bit much. Get a 12 off a lot if you really want to buy new. Personally, I think you are in too deep with your current car though. Just enjoy it until you have it down to around $10,000 and buy the next best thing.

Unfortunately, Corporate Ford announced that the 2013 Boss, GTs, and base trims all went up by about $2000 over 2012 equivalent trims.
What was for example just a tick under $30000 for a bare bones GT (no leather, non-premium sub-trim, no options) is now about $32000 in the same bare bones state.
And this is the FoMoCo MSRP, not the dealership's choice. The dealers could rais or drop as they see fit.
The only thing I can recommend is haggle the dealership to death. Be ready to walk out if you want to pay a price similar to the same trim/sub-trim of the 2012 years.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I never really had much success with this dealership either, when I bought my 2010, they never told me the 5.0 was coming out in a month, I was pretty pissed when I found out about that. I think I'll stick with the 2010 like everyone said and probley forge/supercharge it. I've had some extra cash coming into this new year before even getting my tax's back and have no debt, so I really was considering a newer car. but I can't fathom spending THAT amount of money.
