drive safe is the only way to keep you away from citations.
Drive like a man on the street, race like a pro at the track.
Love your response. And again just posting out of curiosity.

Valentine 1, get a dash mount, or run the wires straight to a power source so you don't lose a 12V and no one can (easily) steal it out of your car (Re. Valets).

Never had a problem with cops as I don't do more than 10 over at any time but I do like knowing who else is on the road, and if they are taking notice of me. Profiling is a real thing, and police are very guilty of it from time to time.

Now there are cheaper alternatives like the belltronics(?) passport, I believe that has GPS. However with like 3 miles lead time from the V1, I doubt you need more room to slow it down than that (and if you do, you're probably insane). Other people suggest getting those laser jamming sprays for your flat surfaces (plates, front bumper) so the "beams" don't have a hard edge to read off (I might be using the wrong terminology here), but I think they are a gimmick and just more gunk to spray on your nice paint job.

Don't bother with the dark tint license plate covers, because if the cops don't already hate you- they definitely will after they see that. And you will have one more thing they will hold against you should you get pulled over.

alright..I used to have the same question...and that was why I bought the V1 5 years ago right after I got my mustang...it works great in open road when I was not doing 20 30 40 mph ove speed limit...but while I drove on free way which wich a wall in the middle(radar doesn't go through) and has alot of curve, it still works while a cop was right in front of me..
as a result, I sold my V1 3 months later..

Lots of people like the Escort stuff, but I work with radars and cops all day, every day. I ended up with the V1 for a reason. We do training for police instructors and service center technicians and there are some tactics out there they use where you need the V1 if you want full situational awareness.

You could pass one obvious side of the road officer running radar, your Cobra or whatever walmart/radio shack is selling at the time special is beeping away. You pass him by and think the threat is now gone and behind you and speed up and <bleeeeeeeep>, you get lit up by a second guy running instant on radar that is very well hidden. On the V1 you'd see two targets, one being intermittent (switching from 1 to 2 radar sources detected), also it would show you when you pass the first guy as one arrow would point from front to the side and then to the rear. You'd see a signal up ahead as well since he'd be popping other people and turning it off. The V1 can detect from very far away so you'd know someone was running the trap up ahead.

That is just one of many things the V1 is good at. I like to use it here in Plano to see if the guys got their DSR 2X systems installed yet or not since it would report 2 signals for that one vehicle (runs front & rear at the same time). I use to run the 2X on road trips, I could watch everyone in the front and back and it would show the fastest target. I'd stay under the fastest persons speed and it worked like a charm. Switched to a V1, never even been pulled over yet.

Look up Valentine's maintenance/tech phone #. They sell "vacation units", ones that were used for a week or so (most likely for a long road trip) and returned. They have a full warranty, and mine looked brand new when I got it. Saved around $50 bucks if I recall. Btw, the cheapest place you will find them is right through Valentine. They don't sell to distributors, so the amazon/ebay sellers are all marked up.

I realize this is an old thread but i just stumbled across it and hate that there is so much BS being spilled on this topic....

1) My setup:
blinder m47 x-treme laser jammers (front)
blinder m27 x-treme laser jammers (front)
valentine one radar detector
cheetah c50 gps red light/ speed camera detector

complete details of the install are here:
http://www.fordgt500.com/forums/show...=laser+jammers

2) Laser jammers are only illegal in the following states:
Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Texas, Illinois and Washington DC.

3) Yes laser jammers work, just do a simple YouTube search for laser jammers if you want proof.

4) No system is completely bullet proof.
a- There is no defense against instant on radar (if a cop knows what he is doing and hits you with the radar after instantly turning it on, no radar detector will make a difference). There are no radar jammers on the market because this would be a FCC violation.
b- Laser is more precise then radar. Laser is what cops use to pinpoint a car in a group. If you see a speed trap, chances are the cops are using laser not radar.
c- Laser jammers are only as effective as your install and car geometry. The jammer heads need to be installed perfectly level and provide adequate coverage of the front/rear of the vehicle (this is why i have 4 heads on the front of my car). Even with the best install the closer you get to the source of the laser the greater the chance of a punch through.

I'm still running my Escort X50 with Escort Live and not a ticket yet! Not knocking the Valentine, just saying that my Escort has saved my bacon a few times and in a state where laser jammers are illegal, that's saying something.

Still, the best radar detector on the market bar none...your eyes. Keep em open and you should never get a speeding ticket if you know what to look for.
