Default Why I love this forum

Oh mustang forum, how do I love thee . . . let me count the ways:

I'm in the process of buying a new car. No worries, we're keeping the Stang, but as I sold my Camaro, I need a new daily driver. I love in a hilly area now, that sometimes sees snow, and often sees rain, so the need for 4wd or Awd is present.

I have on order a 2012 STI. Will give me the opportunity to mod, but also the comfort of AWD. I know not everyone here is a fan of the tuner cars, but it has its draw to me being forced induction from the factory.

In any case, I've spent some time over on some of the STI forums. Let me just say, those forums have really shown me what a kind accepting group of people you all are. The amount of dickery and fanboism over there is ALMOST enough to make me cancel my order, for fear of being associated with that crowd.

I somehow went from defending someone's statement, to being the outcast simply because I acknowledged the "enemy" could be correct if he was talking about a different car (the topic was intakes and whether they need a tune or not). One guy said they didn't, with the general consensus for the STI being that yes, you need one. I agreed with the group, but stated that on my CTS-V, most of the available intakes did NOT require a tune. One of the regular guys said he could personally attest that it did, to which I disagreed. He was basing his assumption on the fact that Subies needed one, and didn't actually have first-hand experience with the car, whereas I did. In any case, suddenly I was the "wrong" one, even though I shared the same view as many of them.

Long story short, you guys rock, those guys suck. I'm still gonna get the car, but I plan on driving it with a Mustang owner mentality, and not the magazine fanboy-mentality that permeates the STI scene.

From my personal experience, most that own and tune imports have a "**** on everything else and all other opinions" mentality. That's just the way it is. Most "tuners" are in their late teens or early twenties and if you bother to look at youtube comments, you'll see that the upcoming generation isn't exactly the most educated or bright group to ever grace this country.

Inconclusion, I hate my generation.

But seriously, post pics when you get the ride next to the stang. Do a comparison. Heck, even after mods do a comparison. I'm interested to hear a non-bias description of each's pros and cons.

Will do!

As someone in my late 20's, it's just sad to see that mentality. Technology-wise, I definitely identify more with the younger crowd. But civility-wise, I feel more older than some of these tuner fellers.

Guess I'll just have to get into the tuning myself and bring a sense of decency to the STI world .

DAMN STRAIGHT! There are a few who get it like us. Friend of mine opted to get a 91 Mustang GT rather than a 2006 Toyota Solara.

Best decision he's ever made IMO haha

@Siggy, don't put on a pedestal spoiler... Please, for the sake of humanity.

nasioc is absolutely the worst car community I've ever been a part of. I was embarrassed by them and honestly, didn't go to local meet and greets or anything, I just had absolutely no desire to be associated with those **** heads.

that being said - I liked the 2011 WRX I had, but I like my stang more. great car, easy to get power out of it, nice quality build, zero issues. good looking car too. I'd advise you to get rid of the stock summer tires immediately and sell them as take-offs, and buy some high performance all seasons. there's something to be said about being able to mash WOT in the rain and still get grip to go. I had hankook h105s in 255/40/18 on some 18x8.5 wheels and they were superb. the awd system really allows you to get away from the summer/winter setups.

here's a pic of mine just for random sharing,

Nice looking WRX! What is the green light inside your scoop?

I ordered a Dark Grey Metallic STI Limited. It comes stock with a fairly big wing, but its distinctive of its tradition so I'll probably keep it.

Glad that someone else feels the STi community is a pretty ****ty one.

lens flare! hah

definitely keep the wing. it's a bit wild, but it's STi heritage for sure!

I could definitely ramble on about how bad that community is. Enjoy the car for what it is and I'd stay clear of the forums, short of reading material and education on certain mods

Well I'll def remain a mustang fan, and be able to drive one on occasion. But I need something different for my DD, and where I live, really need AWD. Don't really want a truck at this point, so the STI seemed to fit the bill for a fun AWD vehicle that I could mess around with.

Thanks for the advice Entaille! Much appreciated. I'll just stick to reading up on products and follow my own route.

I'm sure you'll enjoy driving the STI. I saw one on a dealer lot last Saturday and was VERY tempted to go test drive it just for fun but I talked myself out of it. I'm sure an STI would be a total blast to drive but I'm sorry, I just can't get over the looks of them. Now if they would put that same drive train in the new BRZ, (and keep the price competitive) then this 7 time Mustang owner would consider leaving Ford for Subaru. BTW what's the real world MPG on one of those things anyway?
