Default Buying v8 motor

Ok just looking for opinions obviously condition is important, so assume the condition is excellent, its a motor out of an '05 less than 49k miles. It had a techco charger on it for 1k, it will come with all accessories other than a/c compressor. He wants 1300 .for it. Sound reasonable

I'd say that sounds like a good deal. Just make sure the motor checks out.

Also remember that the motor isn't the only thing that you need for a swap...a lot more goes into it than that.

Oh obxdude is well aware of that. Are you having this done at a shop or by yourself?

I will be doing it myself with some help, but I could do it myself, I already have the gt brakes, 8.8 axle, suspension is heavily upgraded, just bought a shaftmaster 4" shaft. If I get this motor I will probably put some new cams and do some other stuff to the intake to help the cams breath better. The only negative where I live is the closet dyno shop is in Virginia Beach which is about 90 miles away.

$1300 sounds way too cheap, sounds like something may be wrong with it...When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

well 1300 for a '05 is inline, but actually a little high for the risk you take getting an engine from a blower setup. Find out how much boost was being used, what kind of fuel system, etc. You want to try to do determine if detonation was possible. (higher the boost and closer to stock the fuel pump system, the more likely detonation)
Check the oil closely to make sure its clean and no traces of water. Ideally you'd pull each spark plug and make sure there's no coolant in the cylinder (but those plugs are likely stuck good, too).

You dont want to drop in a busted motor.

If the motor came with a lot of the parts you also need, it'd be a better deal.

And FWIW, you dont need a dyno tune for it. You will of course need a PCM for your year model and a PATS-off tune to start it up.

why did he pull the motor after only 1k miles after the blower?

I don't know if it's possible, but I'd want to do a compression test before dropping it in the car. How much would the engine move if you hooked up a battery to the starter?

+1 on cr test. Too many things could be wrong with the engine. Don't pay without checking things out first. Otherwise you end up with a boat anchor. or at the very least, scrap metal to take to the recycle (which you will never get back the money you paid)

Well for everyone who is interested its over on s197 forum, the seller is 2mchtoy. He was running the car at 6 psi with 60lb injectors and gt500 TB, he will take a video of the car running. He says he wants to go another route with the car so that is why he is selling

What changes to the electronics need to be done? PCM? SJB?
