Definitely get a S197!
In my opinion they look better and r just technologically better. But here's a thought. What if u just held off....
What if u just stick with ur 03 for a while and not get a S197.
Then u could save up and get a mildy used 2011 5.0 in a few months?
Just a thought. The 5.0's get good mpg!!! Good luck

Definitly go s197. When I was in the market for a 'stang, I debated between the sn-95 GT and a S197 GT. I went with an 06 GT and every time I see it next to a sn-95, there's no doubt in my mind I made the right decision, and there will be no doubt in yours if you do.

As for MPG, when on my drive out to Carlisle (my only highway driving of the year) I can get about 26. Around town I get about 18.

Good luck with whatever decision you make I'm sure you'll be happy either way!

I too was never a big fan of the mustang until the 05 came out. I think they keep getting better to look at. I have seen guys get mostly around 350 with every bolt on. Some engine work u can squeeze a few more out but it gets expensive. Before I bought my first stang a friend told me to buy a terminator since it would be a better platform to start from but I couldn't get past the exterior looks nor the interior. There are a few things u should research if and when u move forward. I have no regrets with my 07.

When I first installed cams I had 410's with hpipe. I got around 18 and 22 on the highway. That was without a lead foot so keep in mind that was the best I could get.

Very tough call... do you want to ride with less looks and more power, or with more looks and less power?

I almost got a very clean 2002 silver Cobra with 100k on it (true 320hp) but was already sold when I called them. One month later I then found my 07 with a blower already installed for a couple grand more. I think sn-95 CAN look good, especially the terminator cobras, but otherwise they look plain. If you have a GT, lower it and put some nice wheels on it, maybe a cobra bumper, it looks pretty sweet. But the S197 GT just looks better and more like classic muscle.

However, unfortunately the stock 05-09 with 300hp and 320tq leaves a little to be desired, it isnt even that heavy at around 3500lb, but you expect a v8 to have a little more power, like the GTO (i test drove a couple 5.7L with 350hp). I drove a stock 08 GT manual and it felt like it needed another 50 hp, cause the 6k rpm redline is quite low

But if you plan to mod your 05-09 GT with intake, headers, tune, and eventually cams.... it should be quite fun. It all depends on what you expect from the v8. I get around 12-14mpg in town with my supercharged GT.

Thanks for all the input guys. Its all gonna depend on how much I can sell my 03 for?
Ive been seeing some good deals on Craigslist. Im hoping to find a black or blue with automatic. I test drove a 05 last year with exhuast, the mustang was beautiful but I really felt like it was not much faster or even if it was faster than my 03 GT. Thats why i was asking how much hp with mods.

If i just kept my 03, I could add a KB supercharger and really have some fun. But I will always know that i will be a lil sad when i see a nice s197 drive by. I think im just gonna sell my 03 and settle for the mediocer power of a nice looking s197 and then save up again and supercharge it in the future. At least I will be happy with the looks.

Just keep in mind that you can't just slap a Kenne Bell on an Sn-95 4.6L because the internals in those cars are garbage. Unless its a low boost Kenne Bell (which kind of defeats the purpose) it'll blow the motor.

SC that S197 GT and you can put down 450 RWHP before needing to modify the bottom end. And the S197 is pure retro. That in itself give me a woody...

One other question, whats the difference between the S197 Gt and California Special? Is it just the hood scoop and side scoops? I LOVE THE CS but Im curious how much would it take to make the GT look like a CS. Can I just add a hood and side scoops and thats it? I dont care about the actual lettering on the side. I just love the look of them.

Oh I know that, but I wasnt planning on boosting it to 500hp, I would be happy with a 400-450 engine hp. From what Ive read, if i went with an intercooled KB I should be able to get that without blowing the motor.

On a side note, how much engine hp can you SAFELY squeeze out of the S197 engines when blown?
