Ford is just horrible about that stuff, I went to get my front (not sure long time ago) brakes and rotors done... they wanted 500$... I giggled, and drove home. Family friend did them for the cost of parts.

$350 to $1200 is a pretty wide range. Is 8 hours right? How long should it take someone with experience to do it right? Don't most Ford dealers have a guide that tells them how much to charge for a certain job regardless of how much time it actually takes?

Yes all dealers have a specific time amount for most jobs. That dealer is nuts wanting to charge that much. Go to a 4x4 shop dude.
