1SilverGT - Mine gets relatively hot on long draves as well. Roush short shifter. If you are referring to roughly around where the "Roush" is engraved in the shaft.
After awhile of driving my mustang the shift stick gets hot not hot that it'll burn if you touch it, but it get really hot inside the car around the shift stick area. Any suggestions as why that happens or if its normal? bad?
my mustang has a roush shift stick
Sounds like the trans fluid has lost it's lubricity.
It would be a relatively inexpensive upgrade to change to a good quality synthetic fluid. That should reduce the trans temp significantly.

yes mine is the roush short shifter with roush engraved in the sides
My 02 GT was doing the samething, the shifter and transmission area were hot even on short trips. The problem went away after I put a spring on the clutch cable to keep the throwout bearing off the pressure plate while the clutch was engaged. Look up, "freeplay clutch correction kit" for ideas on how to install the spring.
Mine gets a little warm in the summer after driving trough town for over a half hour or so. Never noticed it after it started cooling off outside however...
