After awhile of driving my mustang the shift stick gets hot not hot that it'll burn if you touch it, but it get really hot inside the car around the shift stick area. Any suggestions as why that happens or if its normal? bad?

How long is a while and does it happen all the time? Are you shifting more than usual during that drive?

I have an 08 with the stock shifted. I have noticed it once when driving for almost two hours to go 40 miles in heavy traffic in the rain. I think I spent a good portion of the morning in second. I don't remember if the stick itself got hot but could definitely feel the heat coming from under the shifted. Something was very hot to the touch but I may have taken the shift boot off after the drive and felt inside.I haven't experienced anything like that since then so I forgot about it till now but was a little concerned at the time. My longest drives have been for maybe six hours straight or for 10 of 12 hours when I drove all highway cruising in fifth and don't think it warmed up enough to notice.

That was my first thought too. Mine is a manual and it doesn't get close to getting warm much less hot.

Mine got pretty warm this past weekend cruising the mountains and I asked one of the other guys and he said his did the same thing. We were mostly in 2nd with occasional romps on the go pedal.

I drive it like i stole it when i think its low risk semi regularly. Barely gets warm should you touch below the grip. Pretty obvious there is either low fluid, what is there sucks/is old, or there is a some other transmission based problem.

At first I noticed my 2011's shifter area gets a bit warmer than my 03 mustang GT's shifter did, but its not bad though at all , hardly noticeable now.

If I drive for a few hours and it's really hot outside (as in I'm already sweating my butt off and more heat is the last thing I want, I'll sometimes notice it. I rarely have it happen though, and I even drove it 3 hours to school recently.

I've only noticed it once, tbh.
