Underhood Insulation
I'd worry about removing it currently for mine. Not for suppression, but if you've done some aftermarket audio wiring, more than likely you got cheap like I did, and didn't put on extra terminal connections, and that plastic flap isn't exactly covering the positive terminal completely anymore..
So long as it's strapped down correctly, no biggie, but I do feel a bit better with something non-conductive between it. Optima terminals get a bit too close for my liking..

No, that is in the realm of 'urban legend' - it has nothing to do with fire suppression. Just take a look at the car fires and that "fire blanket" didn't do a thing.
It is a sound insulator only. Take it off and take your car for a drive and see the difference.

can't do that as I've got a fiberglass hood. I can't imagine it doing much for sound though, but the other thing I hear is that it might protect the paint... let it last longer before fading and flaking.
It didn't seem to affect the pain on my hood after 3 years without the blanket. It did affect sound though. When I finished the new hood after getting it home I put the insulator blanket back on to check for rubbing and the car was a lot quieter. Took it off and went for another drive and a lot more engine sounds while driving.
I've always wondered why steel wheels are just generically refered to as steel wheels, and aluminum wheels are usually called "alloy wheels", yet both are indeed alloys?
