Default Shorty header road block

Turns out one of the tubes hits the engine bracket by about 1/2 inch. I was thinking about cutting out that 1/2 inch of the bracket. Making sure its a radius and not a sharp corner cut. That will stop stress cracks. Not sure why they hit but the quality is great and finish is awasum..

They are Boost Brothers (JBA knock offs, the look the same) and I must say side by side the JBA's, Boost Brothers has better quality. Just a small fitment issue.

Anyone come across this of am I in new territory? I figured I would just take the bracket, put a radius cut in it to clear. Then take it to a shop to have two pieces tig welded in to add some more strength.

I have a mig welder but I don't think that will work with aluminum welding wire.

Thoughts anyone?

I was just reading something on this site about someone who installed those headers and had the exact same problem. Or it was a link to a thread on another board about them, I can't remember. I know he said something about contacting the company and they were going to correct the problem.

Can you loosen the mounts and shift the motor over a tad to clear them?

Not sure, Headed back to work on it tonight and see what can be done. Maybe a dimple in the headers or radius out clearance in the motor mount bracket.

Personally, I'd rather take a hammer to the header than a grinder to the motor mount.

My .02

Have you contacted boost bro's about it?

All the strength in the motor mount bracket is in the gusseted area. The extra material that goes beyond that gusset on each side of the bracket does not do much.

Me? Personally, I would put your JBA's on that you had. They fit. I know you like the Boost Brothers quality better, but if they really don't fit right, then how good really is their QC? Plus, is the JBA quality bad? No. If you were looking to get a little better flow to begin with, then smashing the header tube would kind of defeat the original purpose, no? So I wouldn't use that as an option. The whole idea of tuned headers is to have an equal pulse.

Its only one small area that hits, I'll know better tonight when I get a closer look. Yesterday was a long day at work and I did not get a good look at it. The JBA's may not have this small fitment problem but, the quality is not comparable at all. Its like comparing apples to oranges. Thats my view looking at them side by side. My JBA's I gave away so, they are gone. Its a small problem IMO to get over.

I was a mechinical design engineer for 20 years and looking at Boost Brothers and JBA, Boost brothers blows them out of the water in quality.

Oh, ok. I thought you still had them and were gonna give them up if the Boost Brothers worked out for you. Then yea, I guess make em work.
