Our 2012 GT was in the shop (due to driver error - spun a bearing - long story) and they gave us a 2011 v6 auto as a loaner. I must say, after driving the 2012 GT manual, I didn't like the auto, for one, and for two, the v6 was okay but there's a HUGE difference between the 3.7 v6 and the 5.0. To me, it's more than worth the extra $. That's just me though.

Anyway, a 3.7 v6 manual should be a nice package. I say manual because the 3.7 v6 autos don't feel like they get enough torque to the ground, too much driveline loss. A kid who unloads cars and runs through a checklist on them at my dealership said he chirped the tires on the 3.7 v6 manual in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear . A few bolt-ons, like headers/exhaust, no-tune required cold air intake etc. should gain you an easy 20-30 hp too, without voiding your warranty.

The 5.0's are also a nice package, obviously. Great fuel economy for a v8, in fact I haven't heard of another stock v8 that can get 26 mpg highway. The 4.0 liter v8 in the m3 struggles for what, 22 or so mpg? Even the twin-turbo v6 GT-R's don't get 26 mpg highway. Driving around town in the 5.0 isn't bad, even driving aggresively once in a while you can still manage 17-18 mpg. Then there's the power.

A few bolt-ons will see a 5.0 into the 11's in the 1/4 mile. The stock power is more than enough if you're not going to be drag racing it though. It puts a BIG smile on your face, and you won't run into very many cars that can handle you on the street. Unless jap scrap is running boost, they can forget it, any stock camaro besides the ZL1 is in trouble, you'll straight up walk away from a c5 corvette and it'll be neck-and-neck with a c5z or a 392 hemi Challenger, it will really depend on the driver.

If you do get a 5.0, i'd go for a 2013 GT premium, manual. Without sat nav, gearing options, brembo package etc., you can get ahold of one for right around $30k flat, and you still have ambient lighting/mycolor, tachometer redline glow, leather seats and i'm pretty sure the shaker 500 audio system is included with all "premium" Mustangs, I could be wrong. It's a very loud system that has great sound quality. If you go to a dealership on the last few days of the month, you'll definately be able to get a good deal. Payments aren't bad either, 100 bucks less per month than a supercrew 4x4 F150.

I can't afford insurance on a 5.0 or the extra couple thousand. With my car as a trade in and my cash I need to have the car paid for so 30k is out. I did go to a dealer last night with my gf to look at a Mazda 6 she wants(we don't live together or anything were only 18 I just didnt want her going at night and it was the Ford dealer) and there was a 2013 v6 premium (Mycolor ajd leather ajd that) and it happened to be unlocked so i sat in it and i fell in love. Never sat in a 2010-2012 but that 2013 was so comfortable

Go back and test drive it. Only if you can afford the 13. I would also strongly recommend checking with insurance rates as well on any car you decide to purchase.

Yea defanitely go test drive. Not sure about the v6, but I tested the v8 and enjoyed it. I've "heard" that even though the 6 has 300 horse its doesnt "feel" like it.

Ford makes the v6 and v8 for a reason. There are different buyers and different tastes. The two are different cars. If you find you prefer the v6, then there is no reason to buy the v8.

Just one caveat. If you plan to go over 112 mph in the v6, better check out the drive shaft issues first before buying it. There are several threads on the forums about this.

Also, if you are going new, try to find a '12 rather than a '13. Much better deals on the '12 - unless you just have to have the '13 body style,

Ah, I forgot about insurance. You being 18 (i'm only 19) it will indeed be a b$tch if you were able to get a 5.0 lol, i'm really lucky my old man is cool, he let me put my Plymouth under his name. I payed for it, but we both knew that insurance costs were going to f me in the a, him being 50 years old, insurance is dirt cheap, although I still have to pay it, it's ALOT better than paying it under my name. How on earth are young people like us ever supposed to get a decent car in our name without getting brutally raped by insurance companies? It's like fighting to take hamburger hill.

College student? Keep what you have and spend your extra money buying shots for the ladies. You're only young once and there's a lot more to life than a car.

OP, Just to say since you have the 4.0 currently, I had 2 08 and then a 2010..when I was in the market i was in the same boat as you..I took the newer v6 cause that's the v8 version to me having 305 HP lol call it crazy but you know what I mean...I know first hand this machine is world of difference, especially having the performance packedge, turning sharpness, stability, gears, the hooked up suspenstion and those beautiful 19's..I'm taking on STI and EVO X, I'm not a racer either I don't believe running a 28k car into the ground to race, but they do stumble on you lol...In the end the new 3.7 is major difference and I love it!!! Choose what makes you happy and your pocket, remember you only live once..
