New Here, Big Plans, Donno Wut Im Doing, Help?

V8 swaps are pricey and very time consuming (Im in the middle of a fairly extensive one right now.) Go drive a GT 4.6 or 5.0 and decide if you want to keep your 4.0. After I drove a GT I knew I couldnt be happy with my 4.0. My husband and I are doing the swap by ourselves. Otherwise it would be much cheaper to just trade.
Just some things to think about.

Yes it would. A lot easier to trade it in. But you said it was a gift and I personally would feel horrible for trading in a gift such as that. The way I see it, any Mustang is a Mustang, whether it be a V6 or a V8. Sure, many people bash on the V6, but the way I see it, the majority of them don't even own one or have driven one to begin with! Like I said on my previous post, I would just focus on giving it some decent speed and good looks. That's what my plans are for mine. You can always get a GT later on in the future if you really desire what that V8 brings along.

I know exactly what you mean. You said you already have a cold air intake and dual exhaust, get a tune along with that. That should lower your 0-60 time by about a second. From there, get some gears and a t-lok. 5.0 speed would still be quite a way from there, but at least you'd start creeping up on the 4.6. You should be beating the older 4.6 by then, such as 96-98 and you should be even with a stock 99-04 GT. And you'd also be surprised how many other cars you can beat with a tune.

yes!! you have to open that wallet! specially since you're going to stick with your V6. keeping up with 5.0's isn't going to be easy. and I'm talking about keeping up with stock 5.0's with a modified v6.
woo hoo!! first post...im new to the site lol.

Both. American Muscle/Bama's tunes are dyno tested and uploaded to a handheld tuner and now iPhones and iPads. Brenspeed and Steeda also offer free tunes for life with their orders. If there's a speed shop near you with a dyno, you can go that route as well.

Seriously, an engine swap might be the cheapest course of action in the long run.
We're talking $5-7k to turbocharge. Without a good dyno tune from a reputable shop you're likely to blow your engine. Even with a good tune you're seriously risking the integrity of the 4.0L engine. With the turbo likely running high PSI to keep up with the 5.0's type HP numbers. Likely engine work will be needed. You're probably going to need a backup engine block.
With that said I know there are a few running turbo 4.0's with the type of numbers you're talking about. It's going to take a lot of work $. A 4.0 that can outrun a 5.0 would be a hell of a thing.
On the other hand I'm still running a basically stock 4.0, so what the hell do I know!
