13 GT500 hp wars
So I was reading Car and Driver March 12 edition.
Looks like the 13 Gt500 has 650 hp and runs the 1/4 mile in 11.7 seconds for $59k.
The 13 Viper has 660 hp but a price tag closer to $94,500. So double the price for only 10 more hp. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
Also the GT500 has more hp than the Porsche 911, Corvette, Camaro, and M3. Doesn't say which models though but I'm guessing its the top models of each car class.
The only ones that beat it were the Lambo and Ferrari.
So is the GT500 the fastest 1/4 Mile?

If you buy a car solely based on a peak HP#, then I suppose the GT500 is the best bang for the buck. The Nissan GT-R is an incredible car as well for $95k. If I could afford it, I'd buy the Viper or GT-R all day long over a GT500. At the end of the day, as much as I love them, the GT500 is a gussied up 25k Mustang. So for me, it depends on the budget...

You need to stop reading magazines and start looking online. Evolution performance has all ready ran a 9.xx with very little modifications, supposedly.
It's supposed to be in the next addition of 5.0 magazine, lol.

Magazine times are great for a general idea, but who really cars which car is faster from the factory. I'd rather know how much money I need to put into it after the purchase and what I can expect to get for that money.
Based solely on 1/4 mile and hp, the gt500 can't be beat for the money, that doesn't make it somehow better than a viper or ferrari.

GT-R is so over hyped by the fast and the furious kids. It doesn't have anywhere near the potential of the gt500. Just google it, they are breaking the things trying to make decent power. It's a gussied up 370z. Now the viper is a bit more supercar/exotic than the shelby. I'm not sure how stout of an engine it has though.
Gussied up 370z? lol. Badass cars, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Just MHO. That thing will blow the doors off most anything on the street bone stock. 2.7 0-60 and 10.8 in the 1/4. Top speed of 200mph~. Not a car I'd modify, its far too complicated. I don't know how much more "decent power" you need there, LOL... For the record, that car has nothing to do with a 370z.

... Money no option, I'd buy the Cobra just for the pedigree.
Personally, I'd take the Viper as far as overall interest and performance goes, and I mean the 2010 Viper not the new one. I like a car that is trying to kill me.
Maybe if I lived in the mountains or a highly populated area where roads aren't straight, I'd go for the GT-R, but I live in the middle of Indiana, and there is a road that runs perfectly straight for over 50 miles here.

Just for fun, I calculated the 0-60 time of evolution performance's 9 second run.
1/8 mile time = 6.46
1/8 mile mph = 110.35
0-60 = 1.91 seconds
That's with very little money in it according to them, stock blower.

the gt-r is not hyped up - the gt-r is a true performer and is destroying cars 3-5x it's price tag! respect where respect is due. much like the GT500, it is an absolute bargain for the performance level you get.
doesn't have anywhere near the potential of the GT500? stock for stock, it would already slap it around on both the quarter mile and on a race track. obviously if you extend beyond the quarter in a straight line, the GT500 will continue to pull on the GTR though. mod for mod? they are both boosted platforms, there is plenty of potential in BOTH cars. you can definitely get more out of the GT500 with less money, though. much cheaper platform to mod and extract power from. driver for driver, the GTR is much easier to control and get the most out of. the car is a technical marvel and most people could push it hard pretty easily.
breaking the things trying to make decent power? what car doesn't get mangled in peoples quest for more power? they can make a ton of power reliably, some people are just greedy or make poor decisions. you will find the same thing happening to the GT500 at times - people will over do it, testing the limits. the GT500 is not bulletproof, but it is a pretty stout platform that can easily handle more power.
gussied up 370z? I assume you just felt like you wanted to lash out at the other comment .. but guess what? the gt500 IS on the same platform as a regular ol stang.. there is no escaping that. the GTR and 370z could not be further from one another, entirely separate platforms. I assume you know this already, but maybe not.
