The alternator maintains a battery & is not really a recharger. If the new system uses more power than OEM, then the battery could be used to take up the shortage. If that's the case, it won't get much at all from the alternator in terms of a charge. The fix might be a new, or more powerful alternator, or a dry cell deep cycle battery & a batter tender.

I agree and I do believe the battery is done. As in kapoot. Drove the car for 30 minutes (after jumping it off) to a local car show and when it came time to leave the battery was all but dead. Alt gauge showed normal and car ran great but when it came time to leave dead as a hammer. Gonna swap it out tomorrow and see what happens. I think the added draw from the new coils could have killed it faster than norm but we will see. Off the the parts store we go. (again) Thanks for the great advice. Boogie

 

COPs won't have any impact on the battery. But the 05's and '06's were/are notorious for parasitic battery drain plus the alternator in the earlier years was prone to degradation as a result of the battery crapping out. Have the alternator tested along with the battery.

 

OK I swapped out the battery today so lets see what happens over the next few days. I drive the car on the weekends so it will sit for 5 days before I mess with it again. Hopefully the new batt will solve the problem.

 

You DO turn off the sound system before shutting off the ignition, don't you? The amps in the Shakers (and maybe other sound systems) in the 05's and most 06's don't shut off with the ignition off and will cause most any battery to give up before it's time.
