My poor baby!
First off, I've been a long time reader of this forum but I never really had anything to post so this is kind of my unfortunate introduction post.
In 2007, after doing tons of research, I decided to buy a 2007 V6 Mustang as my first car.
Just shy of the car's 5th birthday we had our first major incident.
Friday evening on the way home from work with my wife and 3 year old daughter as passengers a "side skirt" panel flew off of a semi truck trailer (I'm omitting the company's name for now, in case of legal issues) and struck my driver's side front fender/bumper area. The panel had a secondary impact into my driver's side door and quarter panel. The impact to the door was enough to cause it to become stuck.
The woman driving behind me was kind enough to stop and agree to be a witness for me. She drove back and took pictures of the "side skirt" panel that hit me.
Thankfully the panel deflected downward and landed off of the highway and nobody was hurt.
I'm proud of my Mustang for keeping us safe from what could have ended very badly.

Great, now we not only have to worry about the crappy recap tires on semis throwing a huge tread section at us, but poorly installed/maintained huge aero pieces...
Glad no one was hurt, but sorry your pony took a beating.

No, the truck driver didn't stop. I doubt he realized anything happened until he pulled into his next stop and saw that the skirt was missing. The truck cab had already passed us by the time the peice impacted us.
We have been working with the company responsible for the truck and so has our insurance but we'll learn more tomorrow.

Same thing happened to me a few years back. I was comming up on a TT unit when the steel bracket holding the mudflap on the trailer decided it was a good time to let loose. Struck the right front of the car and side doing about 3,000 dollars in damage. The driver had no clue but I recognized the company and knew they had a warehouse off 395 in Oxford. I followed the truck to the yard and was able to get the info I needed. This is one of the reasons I don't like to hang around trucks on the highway. It infuriates me when traffic will slow down to 20 under the limit because some people get scared when they encounter a TT unit on the highway and are scared to pass.
