Default Automatic tranmission flush, price?

Hi all, I just called my local Ford dealer and asked for a quote for flushing the transmission fluid, and they said it would take them a couple hours at the least because it is a closed system, cost around $350..

I hear you are supposed to do this every 30k miles and paying 350 extra on top of current maintnance seems a bit high.. Currently at 45k right now. Is this the normal price or am I getting a very high estimate?

$350 seems high, I paid $229.00 to have my other car done (chevy). I thought that was expensive. All the machine does is pump the fluid out and while that's happening it filling it up at the same time. I think you should shop around.

I payed 50 bucks for fluid gasket and new filter but thats the perks of being a repeat customer and friends with the shop. it will be higher at dealerships try maybe an aamco or trusty mechanic.

You could get out your jack stands and swap the fluid yourself. You won't get every drop out but certainly about 2/3's.

That's outrageous. I do them at work for 139.99+ tax, takes 30 minutes at the very most.

You can change fluid/filter easily yourself too...

Read the manual, if you did you'd learn your trans fluid gets changed at 150k...

True, that's what the Scheduled Maintenance Guide for 2007 says in the main section. The Workshop Manual says it is filled for life for normal use. Both the Workshop Manual and the Scheduled Maintenance Guide (in the Special Operating Conditions section), say the automatic transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles for certain severe duty service.

Well the reason I want to change the trans fluid is because ONLY past 75+ MPH there is a loud, obnoxious grinding noise coming from the transmission (or I think the transmission). I was told by two diff mechanics to do a fluid flush.

I have yet to professionally see any transmission problem fixed from a flush. I'm sure there are people out there that will beg to differ, but I will not flush a transmission with a problem. It's too much liability.

I had a friend with a Honda who flushed his 3x within as many weeks. Now it's rotting in his front yard with a dead transmission.
