Default Is This a Hurst or Stock Shifter?

I bought this TR3650 from a guy with a Shelby GT. I know the Shelby's came with a Hurst short throw shifter. However, when I asked him if it came with a shifter he said, only if you pay an extra $150. I skipped on it, figuring I would just pick up an MGW. I had my dad pick up the trans then I put it into the shop and haven't looked at it since.

Well today, a buddy was looking at it and said, "That's a Hurst shifter."

I just wanted to see if you guys thought it was a Hurst or a stock shifter? If it a Hurst, I will just use that instead of buying a MGW right now.

Kinda looks like my hurst shifter, however mine says Competition plus on it, look at the bushings, if they are rubber more than likely it is a stock one.

It's not the same stock as the one I had. It was just a big blob of iron not 2 holes to bolt a handle to. Maybe you got a free hurst :P

Obxdude, if it is the one out of the Shelby GT it wouldn't be a Competition Plus. It would be the one below that.

Lem, thanks for the reply. I finally found a thread with someone swapping for a Hurst with pics. It sure looks like a Hurst with the gold bowl and finish.

Now I guess I need to find a shift arm for the Hurst.

Should only be two weeks until I have my 3650 in!

I have a roush short throw with the billet arm looks like the arm would work on that one. Got it at AM for 70 I think. I like the looks of it better.

Warpig, I just got the 4.6 back from the machine shop today. Still saving up to get the rebuild kit (can't decide if I want to stroke it or not). I was going to hold off and put it all in together, but at this point my T5 is worthless. So everything will be finished in the next few weeks, then the motor can start being built.

07greygt, thanks. I like the look of the Roush handle too. I'll make some calls on Monday and see what I can get figured out.

Looks like the Hurst to me.
In any case, it's not the stock one, the factory never used that powder coat finish...

I'd say it's not stock - the finish looks like hammercoat. Stock is gloss black, I believe.

Finish and that handle is definitely Hurst. I think the aftermarket Hursts have different bushings. I think they're red poly. It's been a while since I looked at mine, though.

For the Hurst handle you'll need the handle itself, your choice of ****, and also the grommet to fit your existing boot onto the new handle. Or you can get a handle from Ford Racing that will mount to the Hurst and re-use your existing shiftknob, without need for the grommet.
