Default Almost ready to buy new wheels and tires..

Well, the Maryland Casino has been pretty good to me. Got a bit of cash to play around with, so I figured I would buy new wheels and tires. Might as well buy the most expensive thing on my wish list.

I've already decided on the type of wheels I want, but i'm not sure what kinds of tires I should get with them, so I thought I would ask here.

GT500 Wheels

I'm definitely getting those wheels in 18" Staggered. I just don't know if I should go with the Sumotomo HTR Z II or the NITTO NT555's. I've read that the Sumotomo's are horrible in wet conditions, but I see people run them on here. Just wanted to get some feedback on them.

It's either buy the wheels with Sumotomo's within a few days, or wait a couple of weeks and buy the wheels with the Nitto's.

Any help would be awesome!

I recently swapped out my wheel/tire combo.. I was running nt 555's. excellent warm/dry traction, but downright questionable wet traction and definitely no good in the cold. I loved them on the rare hot summer days here in Seattle, but for the other three seasons.. no bueno and no traction!

I can't speak for the HTR Z tires - just know this about the 555's

I know a few cats in Georgia that run the HTRs and it rains quite a bit there.. I use 555s and don't have any issues, rain or cold, but then again I don't drive like grape ape during bad weather.

You may or may not notice the loss in performance due to some added rotational mass; it's not just the wheels but the heavier rubber, too, to go well with those wider wheels.

I'm tend to be a lot more careful when it comes to rain. I have no choice though, since people drive like idiots at the first drop of rain.

Just curious, what part of GA? I used to live in Clayton a while back, then moved to Douglasville.

I'm not too concerned with it being a drop in performance. I really like the look of staggered tires. I think they look really good on mustangs.

Just out of curiosity, how much of a drop in performance should I expect?

The look is referred to as "aggressive".

You may not notice much if any drop in performance. It's likely a few minor RWHP; perhaps 2-5; and may not even be butt-dyno noticeable. What you lose in performance you double in appearance.

That's my mentality.. I don't really go out into the rain very much unless I have to as it is..

I live in good ol middle GA.. Hours away from everything, ha.

super prone to hydroplaning for me. doesn't have anything to do with whatever driving like a 'grape ape' entails : P

I'm rockin the non-staggered 18s with Nittos. Best tire I've ever owned. Hands down. The factory P-zeros were probably the worst...
