Unhappy Rough shifting in cooler weather

At 65k miles, I had my whole clutch assembly replaced with OEM parts due to the slave cylinder/throwout bearing going bad, which was about 3,000 miles ago. Since the weather has cooled down a bit, I am experiencing difficulties getting the shifter into gear easily. It feels clunky and difficult to shift, especially when accelarating hard and shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. During hard acceleration, I am grinding shifting into 2nd gear, which I hardly ever do!

Anyone else experiencing this?

When was the last time you had your tranny gear oil changed? Hard shiftign when cold is usually due to the lubricant used or the age of it.

If the shop didn't replace the tranny fluid when getting the new clutch installed, then it's never been done. My car currently has 68,XXX miles on it.

Is it way overdue?

During hard acceleration, I am grinding into 2nd gear, which I hardly ever do!

Does it continue to do it after the car is warmed up....or after you've been driving it?

Tranny fluid and clutch replacment are not related. It would be a seperate item and you would see it on your receipt as a seperate job.

It sounds like you may be over due. But, as asked by '05 Mustang', does it go away after its warmed up?

Mechanic test drove the car and said that it felt difficult to shift from 1st to 2nd, when hitting the throttle hard. He said it felt normal during regular driving. I went ahead and had the tranny fluid replaced out yesterday. The shifter seems a little better, but still feels a bit clunky. My commute is only 3.7 miles to work and back, so I am not sure if the short drive allows the car to warm up enough to tell. LOL
I am thinking maybe this is how the new clutch and shifter is suppose to feel?

Might be worth an extended drive to let the car fully warm up and see if the issue persists.

My car does the exact same thing, Kevin. Mine is sitting at 75k miles and started doing it around 65k-ish. Now it is to the point that the shifter gets stuck in 1st. I'm not sure what it is, my trans was supposedly rebuilt when I first started having issues and I haven't noticed any improvement.

Good luck finding the issue.

You might try changing the tranny fluid, using a good full synthetic ATF. A good aftermarket shifter like an MGW wouldn't hurt either. I run Amsoil synthetic ATF and an MGW shifter in my '06 GT and she shifts like a dream all year round.

Yikes! Who rebuilt your tranny?
Mine recently started doing it since the cooler weather started. With the new clutch, it felt kind of clunky when shifting already, now with the cooler weather it's definitely worse. I will keep an eye on it and see if it gets worse. If so, maybe I need to sell it!! LOL
