Default ran low oil

So i changed my oil and since i dont have a manual and didnt take 2 seconds to use google i asked the autozone guy how much oil my car took. He told me 5 qts. I believed him sinces thats how much my 2002 gt took. It red fine when i checked the dip stick anyways. So about 500 miles later i check it again and its barely on the min mark. I add a quart and now its fine. But do you guys think any damage was done.

Wouldn't sweat it OP. Lesson learned and the car should be fine.

Yes, you're fine for now. My concern is why the reading on the dipstick read okay right after the change, but 500 miles later it's reading about one quart down.

Perhaps you didn't wait long enough for the oil to drain into the pan when you changed the oil. If that's the case, then you're good. If you really did burn about one quart in 500 miles, then there could be an issue.

Check the dipstick frequently until you determine what, if anything, is going on. My guess is you didn't let the oil drain into the pan, but check the dipstick to be sure.

Edit: I messed up with my reasoning. Perhaps the filter wasn't full when you checked the oil after changing it. That would give you a good reading on the dipstick, but when the filter got full, the dipstick would read low.
