Default 2013 Ignition Switch Issue

Last couple of times I've inserted my key into the Ignition Switch it's been reluctant to release the wheel and allow the key to turn at all. Even vigorous rocking of the steering wheel doesn't let it turn. Eventually, after a lot of messing and magic words, it releases. Have an appointment for service tomorrow but they've 'never seen that before'.

Next time it happens I'll have the second key and give it a try but I can't imagine the key going bad after only 5k miles.

Anyone having similar problems and willing to offer any idea what's wrong?

Thanks

I had something similar happen, but it was on a copy of a key. It worked fine, then it stopped working, then it worked sometimes. This was always when I had the key inserted in one particular direction. In the other direction, it always worked fine. I chalked it up to the copy not being cut correctly.

If there's a problem with more than one key, perhaps the lock cylinder is bad.

You want to have at least three working keys, in case you lose one or one goes bad. If you don't have at least two working keys, you can't program an additional key yourself, and having the dealer do it is expensive.

I'm basing the above on an '07, but don't know if there's anything different about the '13.
