:( 2012 GT Tranny issues!!! :(
So i purchased a brand new 2012 black GT 5.0 6m/t in February of this year. She has 5,800 miles on her. Twice while driving (like a grandpa...) it wouldnt go into second, as if it was completely locked out (no, it wasnt skip shift).
I thought it was odd but didnt think too much of it as it never happened again (^ that happened at about 3k miles). About a month ago I was in the parking lot at work and was in reverse and while backing up (maybe 2mph?) the car stalled out almost as if I had run into a concrete wall. I seriously thought I hit something it was so abrupt so looked around and nothing there. I fired the car back up, continued backing up and once I put it into first I noticed a very light humming coming from somewhere in the driveline. I thought it was my imagination but the faster I drove the louder it got! I have a muffler delete (ONLY MOD) so the higher the rpm the more it drowned out the whine. This was a thursday evening and the dealership was closed and I figured since it drove fine otherwise it could wait until friday to get dropped off. I drove it to work Friday and home with the same whining. It whines in every single gear and gets louder as the rpm goes up. No noise when rolling if I pulled it out of gear or pushed in the clutch.
This was October 12th (friday) I dropped it off at the dealer about about 5pm after work. The tech dropped the tranny and a week later the service manager called me and said they are working with ford right now to determine if they are going to replace my whole transmission or just replace the failed parts. I asked what failed and he said they are replacing all 6 forward gears, the reverse gear and the clutch pack....WTH!?
At this point im just glad they are fixing the problem but the longer I think about it, I should NOT be having these problems on a 10 month old car with 5800 miles on the odo! At this point in time we are STILL waiting on parts as they are backordered. I am apparently at the "top" of the list because its a warranty repair.
The longer it takes the more upset im getting because im rocking out a LIME GREEN FIESTA in the mean time (THANKS guys, seriously...). I am also thinking to myself...I will have an essentially brand new car with a REBUILT TRANNY!? That dosnt seem right to me. This is my first brand new car and I was planning on driving this thing into the ground (Just didnt think it would be in 10 months...lol)
I was talking about it with my buddy who is an attorney and he looked up the Illinois lemon law for me and it states that if a vehicle is inoperable for 30 BUSINESS days (so M-F...does that include Saturdays since service is open?) then it qualifies as a lemon within the first year or 12,000 miles of ownership. I bought the car in early February 2012 so only ~10 months in, and 5,800 miles. 30 business days would conclude on 11/23, even sooner if the Saturdays count. When I called Wednesday, they said the parts are labeled as "shipped" but have not left the distribution facility yet.
I hate to say it as I LOVE my car (minus this BS) but I almost hopes it takes over 30 days so I can get a new car/refund to buy a new 5.0 as I DO NOT want a rebuilt tranny in a BRAND NEW CAR!?
My fear is that it will have a high probability of a future failure do to the fact a mechanic at a small dealership is rebuilding my transmission and not a person in the Ford factory who ONLY builds transmissions all day every day. I asked if they had done any other service work on a 5.0 mt/82 and they said NO which is not very confidence inspiring
What really ticks me off is that I have an s10 4x4 I will be driving through the winter and we are supposed to get snow on monday! My poor baby (which has been garage kept its whole life) has been sitting out back of their dealership for 3 weeks and looks like crap. I will probably get the car back in ~2 weeks which at that point It will be about time to garage it for the winter

Ya I have heard a few stories of replaced trannies pretty early on but it seemed to be mostly a 2011 thing...? Did they update anything in the tranny between 11-12-13 that anyone is aware of? If the answer is no thats pretty discouraging. Hey you know those parts that failed the first time around?? Well, we put brand new versions of that same part in! Good luck getting to 100k miles before she grenades again!

I want to step in and assist by escalating your case to your regional customer service manager. To do so, please send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name. Your CSM will work in tandem with your dealer to coordinate efforts on a resolution.
Please be advised, however, that if you retain an attorney I will no longer be able to assist.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks!
Crystal
Good luck, I'm taking mine in this morning for the cold shift problem (TSB 11-3-18) I hope that's all it is. I would be extremely frustrated if I had to leave my car for service as long as you have and I know the exact place where a Fiesta can easily get airborn and I would rag the hell out of it every day that I was stuck with it.
Hi mph07alloy,
I'm happy to extend the same offer to you that I have to the other folks on the forum. If you'd like me to escalate your case to your region's customer service manager, just send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name. I'm on the case!
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks!

Thanks Crystal, I had great customer service this morning, they advised it was the transmission fluid TSB, they changed it out and I was back on the road in under an hour. I have to say it was one of the quickest and easiest service visits I've ever had and I will give Landers Ford the highest rating when I get the survey in the mail.
Have a great weekend!
Crystal
I would not be too worried about the repair. Either way Ford will stand behind the warranty. The dealer has to do what is called a cost cap analysis. If the cost of the repair exceeds the cost of replacement then Ford will ship a factory reman unit for it. Chances are by the list off parts you mentioned they will just send a unit. I am not familiar with the lemon law in your state but in Florida, it is not very consumer friendly. I have seen Ford customer assistance step up to the plate and give extended warranties for satisfaction. I have also seen them actually make customers car payments for the car being in the shop too long. Let us know how it turns out. Good Luck
hey brotato --
I know it's frustrating that your brand new car is having issues. it sucks, but it does happen, and you were the unfortunate victim. I know it's stressful not having your brand new car that you are paying good money for ..
but at the end of the day, you do have a loaner car so you can get around, and they are working on replacing the busted bits in your transmission.. what else can you ask from them? if you are terrrrrribly concerned about them replacing trans internals with new ones, you could push for a new trans entirely and they might comply, but you would to have needed to negotiate this before they ordered parts to do the work.
why not let them try to repair it, see if it falls within the 30 day timeline, and see if the repairs are acceptable?
I feel like you're being overly dramatic. personal opinion
