My 06 gt getting beat by a stock 89 silverado.
Hi all. Im trying to argue a point with a buddy of mine who swears that his stock 89 silverado single cab shortbed will beat my 06 GT off the line in a race beccause he has a 5.0 and i have 4.6. mind you his truck is all STOCK. Does he have a valid point or is he blowing smoke? He wants to race and test it out tommorow.

DFR30... No offense man, I can't understand how on earth you would actually think this is possible. I mean really... I'm not saying stock 2006 GT's are the fastest thing on the road, but this is common sense and purely a waste of time to even think about it

Not even a contest. He may beat you for 50 feet if he has 4:11's but after the 4.6 brings up the revs, its all over. The 5.0 Chev is a boat anchor in comparison. The 4.6's torque is quite a bit more, and torque relates to power.

Not gonna lie, there was a time when I first got my liscence and my concept of fast was very limited. I couldnt see how anything coulda been faster than my 1972 C-10. Young and naive I just knew it felt so fast. This could just be one of those situations. Now I am not that naive.

I actually had a fast 91 singlecab Silverado as a teenager. This was in 2000 though. I bought the truckused but had a completely built engine and a turbo four hundred transmission. Pulled away from a ta and z28 and my buddys 69 el.Camino ss. Fun truck even if I destroyed the transmission and it got 9 mpg lol.
