Snowstorm almost here
This is the first snow for my 2012 GT. I got a set of Michelin xice3's installed. I drove my other mustangs in the winter and it was horrible, but I never had snow tires.
Kinda anxious to see how it handles.
Anyone else driving their stang in the snow?

Hell no!!! I did it last year ONCE and that was enough. They don't do snow preparedness here in MD like they do elsewhere. It was an hour and a half of white knuckle driving and trying to keep it straight to go 10 miles. Those Pirellis are TERRIBLE in snow.
you will do OK with snow tires. bear in mind you are still driving a RWD vehicle and it isn't terribly difficult to dig yourself into a hole. accelerate gently, and don't sit there and repeatedly spin your tires
I lived in Northern Japan for 2 winters, I know how to drive in the snow. It's that fact that A) No one in MD knows how to drive period, and B) The snow preparedness here is utterly terrible.
In Japan for two winters, getting an average of 16-18 FEET each season, I NEVER had a problem of slipping and sliding unless it was on purpose. Never had issues w/ plows piling snow in street/parking lot entrances etc. Here, they don't care. They plow the street, and put the snow in front of your driveway, 4 ft high, you have one moron driving 900mph and then another moron going 2 mph in the same lane. I'll be in the g/f's Grand Cherokee this winter....or my F-350 if I can get it back on the road before it snows.

my comment was to the OP. it sounds like he wants to know what to expect with his snow tires. of course your summer performance tires cannot do their job in the snow. no summer tire will fair well in the snow, the compound hardens in freezing temps and the tread patterns are not adequate
being in IL I am sure they are a little more prepared for the snow, too. here in Seattle, the entire city gets shut down when there is a couple inches of snow, so I can relate to the whole unprepared thing..

Out here the taxes are nice and low, (in central IL), but they won't do anything for you. Back in NY in a suburb above the city, taxes were stupid high but I do have to say, anything up to a foot and a half of snow and the roads would stay black all day.
I would imagine winter tires should make a significant difference. Certainly still won't be enjoyable or easy, but better. I'd also advise putting something heavy in the trunk.
Drove my 07 mustang in the snow for 3 winters with the Pirellis...sucked, but i did it because i couldnt afford 2 cars. now that i can, the 13 has been put away for the winter....not even going to attempt it

Our GT's are too light and have way too much torque. Snow tires help make the car go from terrible to only horrible. Of course, that's coming from someone that has owned a lot of vehicles that handled well in snow.
