Default When should I switch to synthetic oil?

So I'm at my 70,000 mile oil change. Still running Ford synthetic blend. Is it time to start running full synthetic? Should I have already started??? or am I still cool with the blend?

If you do research you'll find that the benefits of synthetic for a mainly street driven engine are slim! One thing for sure is your wallet will be a little thinner.............I dont think it is worth it in my DD.

It's worth it if you run appropriately longer intervals, synths cost more, but you also have to get under the car and fiddle around half as often. Of course, if you're the die-hard 3000 or 5000 mile interval man, then it would be a waste of money to go for anything more than dino.

+1 What pdonket said...

The blend is fine for up to 7000 miles or so if you're driving easy and mostly highway and about 5,000 -6,000 otherwise. As long as you're changing oil at the correct interval for that type of oil AND for your driving style, you won't see any benefit from dino vs blend vs full syn.

I'll run full synthetic up to and over 10,000 miles in my Stang and in my tow vehicle. As stated above, you'll just waste your money if you change a synthetic much earlier than 10,000 miles. Just be sure to use a good filter. I use Amsoil Ea filters in the Stangs and SUV. I also will use M1 filters if they're on sale.

BTW, OP, I used to live in Blackwood back in the mid '80s.

Yeah, thanks guys. I figured the blend would be fine. I don't drive it really hard often, although I do alot of stop and start. I am a die hard every 5000 miles guy so I guess the blend will be fine. Love these cars, 70,000 plus miles and this thing still feels brand new!

Nuke....shout out to Blackwood NJ! lol
