Saleen vs clone Who is more respected? The built clone or the real deal
At work there is a guy that owns a 2007 saleen. Its a gorgeous car. So i was talking to a buddy of mine who said the saleen is nice but it was just bought not built and said it was just buying the saleen name. His philosophy is that its more respectable if you build up the car yourself even if it is a clone(with the power to match the looks of course). Do any of you share that belief? thought this may be an interesting thread to see the different opinions especially from saleen owners.

I'd rather build something unique than a clone. But if people want to clone it, I don't really care. Just do it right, instead of dropping a bodykit and calling it done. What pissed me off about people cloning the M3, was that they'd drop the body kit on, sometimes a motor, and then go speeding off at 120mph. It wasn't the impersonation that really irked me, it was that now there were idiots driving around at M3 speeds, without M3 suspension, brakes, traction control, etc. that makes it just a tad safer.

Body kits are body kits as long as you don't add the badges along with it then who cares. I personally won't ever stick Cobra/Saleen/Boss badges on my car. I took the GT/CS stickers off mine because I thought it took away from the overall look of the car and I hate stickers would rather have them painted on. In the end its all personal opinion and as long as you like your car and the way it looks who gives a flip what anyone else thinks. I have never heard anyone say "Oh you took the cheap way out and bought a Cobra/Saleen/Boss" If you have the money more power to you and like Tbar said for alot of people its just a jumping off point.
