Default iPhone 5 and Ford Sync

I tried to connect my iPhone 5 via USB a few days ago and it wouldn't connect. Do I need to update the sync software. I think it has 3.1, I don't know the current version.

Thanks for all replies.

I just tried connecting my galaxy s3 to sync and it said this device doesnt support playing protected files through usb. then i tried to connect via bluetooth and it didnt detect any bluetooth device... sucks. I also tried to connect my bluetooth OBD2 Scanner to android via bluetooth in the torque app and i havent got that working yet either.

If you have bootleg files on them that can cause issues. Seen it many many times.

If usb doesn't work you can always grab a aux cable.

My iPhone 5 plays music through bluetooth. I never tried through the USB. Once I paired it via bluetooth for calls, it has always played music through bluetooth. My 4 did the same thing.

Same here, I can connect via Bluetooth just fine. A few days ago I wanted to connect via USB on a road trip to control music through the steering wheel. It was the first time I tried to connect it through USB. None of my music is bootlegged, all bought through Amazon or CD. No protected files either.

There are no compatibility issues.... USB or bluetooth...with any version of iOS or Sync.

You need to give more detail. Are you trying to sync the phone/contacts? Play music? Bluetooth? USB?.. etc. Copy protected songs wont play via USB, but they will play over bluetooth.

I just use a 36 GB USB drive for my music and bluetooth for the phone.

I used to be able to connect my iPhone 4 via USB with no problems. I've had the iPhone 5 since Sept and I only connected it via Bluetooth. A few days ago I needed to charge my phone on road trip and figured I would charge it via USB and was getting error messages. None of my music is copy protected. It's a mp3 format.

I usually use the Sync usb with my 5, but today it started not working at all. I ended up going back to bluetooth for audio. The only downside is that I can't see what artist and song is playing on the radio like it did with the USB connection.
