Default Grinds in 2nd Gear

Hey guys, I need your advice and feedback. Sometimes, not always, my tranny tends to grind when shifting to 2nd gear. I notice it a lot when I want to launch it from 1st to 2nd quick. However there have also been times when, (usually in the mornings) I'm cruising and it grinds as i shift. Any ideas on what i could be?? or where I should start looking??

Definitely your second gear synchronizer. Speed shifting tends to wear them out. Replace it.

What year is your Mustang?
I experienced issues when my slave cylinder/throw out bearing going out, which caused major issues shifting. It started off grinding from 1st and into 2nd gear on occassion. Once it went completely bad, the clutch pedal had a 2 inch dead spot and I could barely move the gear shift into any gear and had to jam it. Once I had the whole clutch assembly replaced, I was experiencing rough and clunky shifting issues when going from 1st to 2nd. The shop changed the tranny fluid and it definitely helped.

So after reading this really old post, I'm happy to report that my transmission is fixed and better than ever!!!

But, man what a headache it was!! So, it turned out one of my customer's works at a transmission shop near me. When i told him about the problem I was having with my tranny, he offered me a good price to tear it appart and rebuild it. I set up a date to have it done and in the meantime i ordered a LUK clutch kit.

The day I was suppose to bring him the car my clutch master cylinder broke as i was driving there!! I guess the piece that connects to the back of your clutch pedal and then attaches to the clutch master cylinder is made of plastic!! Anyways, I managed to get the car there safely ( that was a hell of a challenge) and then I was forced to buy that master cylinder from the dealer. The mechcanic that rebuilt my tranny had to replace 3 synco rings and unfortunately charge me 100 bucks to replace that damn clutch cylinder, he said it was a nightmare replacing that piece.

But, now the car drives sooo much better than it ever did before! even better than the day i bought it! I'm so glad it's all over and fixed!
