Living with a Clunking Drivetrain? You Don't Have To!

I wouldn't necessarily call it a "band aid" just yet, though time will tell.
The slip joint on the driveshaft was dry, which is why it was clunking. It's not supposed to be dry, they are suppose to have lube in them.
The tech told me that's the first place they look when someone complains of an audible clunk sound, and in most cases will not come back. If I have to have it lubed every 30,000 - 60,000 miles from now on, I can live with it.
My brother has an 07' but with less miles than my car, with no clunk sound ever, though I can feel the same amount of sloppiness in the two-piece driveshaft design. I suspect over time, these things need to be lubed, curious to see if his starts making the same noise as he gets more mileage on the car.

I absolutely love it. It took away virtually all drivetrain clunking. I felt a difference right away... when backing out of my garage while just using the clutch, the car moves immediately as soon as the clutch grabs. Also, a little more noise is transmitted through the cabin, in a good way though. The stock piece is designed to reduce NVH after all, but ironically it had the annoying clunk during a lot of 1-2 shifts. The 1-piece shaft doesn't dampen all those little noises and vibrations, but again, I actually like it (it's primarily noticeable when I start the car, not so much while driving). Though I didn't buy a Mustang to have it sound like a Lexus inside.

I weighed the DSS driveshaft before the install. It's 20.7 lbs.
I also have a DSS aluminum driveshaft and it weighs about 20 lbs. The best deal I found was from Lethal Performance (you can search for a coupon code too).

To top it off, my warranty coverage paid for it.

I actually didn't do it, my dealership did it. My car was in for it's final inspection/service before I was officially out of warranty and one of my complaints was a "clunking" drivetrain when shifting from a stop.
The dealer service receipt states:
"Inspected driveline, found driveshaft slip joint dry. Removed driveshaft and repacked slip joint." Cost was $100 plus $7.78 for XG8 Teflon Lubricant, which my 3rd party warranty covered.
There is absolutely no more clunk sound, you can still feel some play with the two-piece driveshaft, but it's still vastly smoother with no audible sound anymore. Just wished I did it sooner.

Check this out. Not a Mustang but same thing...
