drive shaft
i will keep you guys posted as how it comes out ive done this before using a metal/steel whatever you want to call it on a truck and worked pretty damn good but never on a s197. thanks for your feedback xx10GT not to be sarcastic or anything but ive done a little fabrication on headers and that did come out awesome. like i said guy no offense to anyone just want to get the most feedback on what is out there .
These cars come with a heavy steel two piece driveshaft for a reason. It dampens all the drive line vibration. You didn't think they engineered this marvel to save money, did you?
Do you weld aluminum every day? That's my point, the guy that makes the spyder drive shaft does it for a living. The DSS has a machine that spins the thing up to 9500 rpms, does your buddy have that?
If you are a good welder, then have at it, but just know that you may experience more vibration with a 1 piece drive shaft. I have a 1 piece steel drive shaft from Denny's drive shaft, who have been in business making custom drive shafts since the 70's. They quit making them for the s197 because of all the vibration issues.
If I were buying or making a drive shaft today, I'd be using a cv joint at the rear like the stock drive shaft. That wasn't an option when I bought mine in 2006.
Does anyone know the story behind the twisted stock drive shaft in this thread?

i wont be welding it the driveshaft shop will they have a machine that spins and welds along with balancing ....... just dont want to spend 500-700 on a aftermarket one when i already have had the ranger one and the ranger one i have looks exactly like the one they sell thru american muscle but idk what the difference is other then the length

I still would prefer having the CV joint at the pinion, but you might get lucking and have a car with no vibrations. A lot of people will blame the 1 piece drive shaft for vibrations, but the reality is that the vibration was always there. The stock drive shaft just cancels it out very well.
