Default Insuring your MODS...Car Insurance

Has anyone thought about this and covered your a**?

I have invested somewhere in the neighborhood of $13K into modifying this thing.

Right now I am being insured on a stock 05 mustang GT

What happens if you are ever in an accident and it is declared a total?

Do they cut you a check for the car and you lose all your mods? Do you get the check and the opportunity to strip your car of the mods? Is that only possible if you give them a list of all the mods you paid for? Then pay a little higher monthly payments...

What are you guys doing regarding this?

Thanks!

whoever wrote that article is terribly old and out of touch, and probably shouldn't be writing about this topic.

You will never get $13k on top of the value of your car. You might get half that if you keep receipts. I do not insure my mods. If my car is totaled and the blower is still good, I will pull it off before I accept any check, while it's still my car. Nothing else I have on it is worth my trouble to remove.

Won't happen. This is why those people who buy a lower model like a GT and swear they'll make it as fast as a GT500 are putting their money on the line. You want a supercharged Mustang and have insurance on that then get a GT500.

I like these opinions...very interesting discussion in my opinion. However short or long.

Modding for LIfe!!!

Yeaaa...wish I would have waited 1 or 2 years and got the GT500. Just throw a few thou at it and DONE

If your mustang is not your daily driver (mine isn't), then you can insure it for an agreed upon value through a specialty insurance company like Grundy's or Haggerty's. I have mine insured through Grundy's at an agreed upon value of $30,000. Obviously, I have much more than that invested in the car, and obviously, no one would be willing to pay that amount to buy it from me now, but the beauty of the agreed upon value insurance is that if my car gets totalled, I get the full amount, no questions asked. I'm not looking to recoup everything I've put into the car, but should something terrible happen, I'd feel a lot better about getting $30,000 back from Grundy's than getting the $15,000 or so that Geico would likely pay out. My premium for my policy is only $450 a year. Can't beat that. My dad also has Grundy's for his 1966 Fairlane.
