Its time for me to get new tires, but I'm not sure if I want to stay with what I have (275/40R/18 NITTO NT555s). I like the tires but it seems that the tires are too short. They are 0.6 inches shorter than stock (26.7 vs 27.3).

I would like to get 275/45/18s all around but Nitto doesn't make any tires at that size and i'm not familiar with the other brands at all.

I've thought about getting staggered tires with 295/45 in back and maybe 255/45 or 265/45 up front, but i'm not sure if I wanna run staggered or even if those would look good on the 10" wheels.

I open to any brand with a good reputation and reasonable price... Again, just looking for some good tires that are taller.

how about 285/40s? : P

or you could lower the car a bit and fix that issue right up. 275/40s are already pretty beefy.

 

Well my car is already lowered, and it scrapes my bumper and my exhaust everywhere. That's part of the reason I want taller tires. As far as the 285s, I really don't think they would fit up front, and and if i'm gonna run staggered then I'll get 295s in the back.

 

I'm not sure about fitment, but I've used three different A/S tires for the last 5 years. I used Goodyear F1 A/S and Goodyear GT A/S on an Audi Allroad. Then the Goodyear GT A/S and Pirelli PZero Nero A/S on my Acura TL Type S. The GY tires had a stiffer sidewall than the Pirelli's as well as better wheel protection to help prevent curb rash. The Pirelli's don't wander as much as either of the GY tires did. They also seem a bit narrower than the same size GY's. So you could probably go a step wider on the same rims than with the GY tires.

I don't have a Mustang yet, but on my last two cars the tread didn't wear evenly inside to outside so rotating helped extend the life. As long as you don't mind replacing tires more often then the wider rear tires would help to get the power down better as well as look better on the rear of the Mustang.

 

I've read countless times Michelin pilot super sports are the best tire you can buy. However quite pricey!

 

I think i'd be OK with staggered, but then when size do I get up front? Wouldn't it look bad to run tires under 275 on a 10 in rim? I hate that stretched tire look, especially if they are taller tires.

 

What about Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 or Continental ContiProContact or Bridgestone Potenza RE050? Only other tires a really see at the 275/45/18 size I want.

 

Believe it! I have Michelin Pilot SS on 2 of my cars and they are freakin' awesome.

 

I got a set of Continental ContiTrac DW 275/45/18's when they were $100/each on clearance at Tirerack. They don't look stretched on my 10.5 rears, but they're pretty close to rubbing up front during turning(9.5" front rim). I'm not sure how it'd do on a lowered car. I'd have to say they would rub up front if I was lowered (not top rub, but when wheels are cranked one way or another). I won't be lowering until I get some fresh meats up front.

 

Well my car is lower than stock on coilovers but still on almost the highest setting because my car already scrapes. My 275s are close right now but tire rubbing has never been an issue.
